The Bobcats have waived guard Sherron Collins and forward Dominic McGuire.

    http://twitter.com/AlexKennedyNBA
Don't they have to waive at least one more?

Yahoo! Sports say they are waiving three guys -

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...s-bobcatstrade

Forwards Dominic McGuire(notes) and Derrick Brown(notes) and guard Sherron Collins(notes) will be waived to make room on Charlotte’s roster.
The Spurs can think of either McGuire (zero offense, good defense) or Derrick Brown (decent defense, inexperience)...

Nice. If Butler does not get bought out both of those guys are decent fall back options.

I take McGuire over Brown. He will be a nice role player to have at the end of the bench.

I don't know if the source is legit or not, but I heard the Spurs are giving McGuire serious consideration.

    Hope you're right about that!
    Where did you hear it?

Let's hope this is true. Just out of curiousity, can you divulge your source?

A couple of questions to the more-informed masses:

How does McGuire stack up against a player like Renaldo Balkman?
Which one would be considered the better rebounder and defender?

After some research, I found this snippet on McGuire from DraftExpress (it's 3 years old)

Defensively, McGuire shows the ability to defend both the perimeter and the post, and his combination of size, athleticism, and effort lets him make some plays on that end. McGuire will have a chance to earn himself some money this season with the Wizards.

if it was between McGuire and Brown; I'd go with McGuire, he is a much better rebounder and has a little more NBA experience

I would rather not. I want to see if this is a legit source. However, the source also mentioned that the Spurs have been interested in McGuire for a couple of years and he had been given the "next Bowen" label some time ago.
Personally, I think he is better than Balkman in all regards.

That's good news and some really high praise.

McGuire put up very good rebounding numbers for the Bobcats this season while Balkman only played in 5 games all year. In fact, Balkman has only played in 18 games (135 minutes) in last two seasons combined.

The most important difference for now is that McGuire is available and Balkman is not.

Ok, but the "Bowen" label is pretty impressive although remains to seen.
If he can also learn to shoot a lot better then he would be an asset for sure.
Coaching staff can address that issue in the off season.
The question, does he want to play here over other places?

It sort of makes one wonder just what the the Bobtails are doing? What exactly is their strategy? They sought to trim salary by dumping the expensive contract of Gerald Wallace. They found a taker in Portland, but I will strongly believe that they could've and should've held out for a 1st round pick because Portland was absolutely giddy for Wallace. They were about as desparate to acquire him, as the Bobtails were to give him up. Instead, the Bobtails accepted a 2nd round pick.

After the Wallace trade, one would believe the team was rebuilding and going young. However, they then inexplicably cut 2 young, inexpensive players - McGuire being one.

It just doesn't appear that they have a direction. If you're MJ, I just don't know how you sell that to your fan base.

Yeah, the "next Bowen" thing is , but if the Spurs have been interested since he was on the Wiz, it make sense that they would be interested now. He is really athletic, can play/defend the 3 or the 4 and although he isn't a great ball handler, he is good enough to get to the rim and strong enough to finish or get to the line.

God, I hope not. If so, then I'm officially worried because it was Larry Brown how sang the praises of and ultimately sold Pop on the great Jackie Butler.

That's the book on him from DraftExpress and that's exactly what the Spurs need. It all sounds good and I hope they're able to make a decision on him.

Butler had potential at the time, but he got out of shape, had motivation issues and went downhill fast. The Spurs, apparently, have had interest in McGuire before he was a Bobcat.

The Nazr trade was a 2 for 1 and the Wllace trade was a 3 for 1. Bobcats carries a full 15 players roster. In order not to exceed the max roster size, they had to cut 3 players before doing these trades (McGuire, Collins and Brown).

If they can convince McGuire to play here then coach Chip E. can work on his 3 pt. shooting in the off season.
