When the English and French first began establishing colonies in North America Chesapeake, Virginia, Quebec etc....It was the Native Americans who taught Europeans how to grow crops, hunt game, and survive the harsh winter climates. In the return the Europeans thought it fancy to enslave the natives and force them to convert to their way of life. Something the natives rejected. So yes over time the natives did become hostel, but in the beginning the natives did a lot in helping Europeans adjust to the New World.
