Good signing for the mavs. Probably better for them simply by keeping him from us. Oh well.

I hope he enjoys sitting on the bench. If/when Butler returns, will he even be active? It's between him and Mahinmi and they'll probably keep Mahinmi active, since they only have three bigs active besides him (I know Marion plays backup four, but he's a three).

Clearly, he's not too bright and he doesn't value winning or playing that much. Could have taken less with the Spurs, possibly been in the rotation, playing a part on a team that could very well win the championship, then cashed in this summer/post lockout. Instead, he goes for the quick cash grab and goes to a non-contender, where he'll be hard pressed to play now and has no chance to play when they're healthy.

Butler isnt coming back this season. Thats a pipedream. Butler and Jones are out longterm. Cardinal will be the 3rd guy in streetcloths.

The Mavs have Peja and Marion. Marion will keep his tagteam benchrole with Terry. Marion will keep playing also backup PF minutes. Brewer has even a chance to surpass Peja as a starter.

Thats why he chooses the Mavs. Next season Peja is maybe gone, Stevenson too...

Mavs win by keeping him away from Spurs. Brewer wins by making more money.

    Playing time ? Irrelevant.

Winning a Ring ? Not going to happen.

Played out exactly as those of us with any sense knew it would.

The moment Cuban knew Pop wanted him the Mavs were always going to grab him.

Pity, he could have helped our team a lot.

Cuban just threw a bunch of $$$ at Brewer to keep him from the Spurs, that's it. Cuban wants a but he can't ever seem to get one, and the Spurs have four and are on track to win a fifth . Cuban is jealous of the Spurs.

Heh...it's gonna be a royal pisser for Brewer to watch the Spurs win the le this year, knowing full well he missed his golden opportunity to get a ring...because he'll never, ever get one playing for the Mavs.

No, he chose the Mavs because they can offer him a lot more money than anyone else.

If Brewer signs somewhere else, 57 pages. The Spurstalk collective will need this thread to discuss how Brewer was never that good in the first place, stupid for signing somewhere else, and how whatever team signed him made a big mistake.

If Brewer signs with the Spurs, 38 pages. Discussion about how awesome Brewer is will be divided between this thread and 18 new threads about how the Spurs are now locks for the NBA le.

he could have gotten $2 mil and maybe more playing time from a lot of other teams around the league.

Mavs offered the best combo of money, PT, and championship chances.

Okay, yes, I should have said "most money from a contender". He was never going to another bottom of the barrel team.

He claims he is. I'll take him at his word until I hear otherwise. I know Jones is out and that he and Cardinal are the two inactive guys. Because of their lack of big depth, though, Brewer is not even assured of being active if/when Butler returns. Even if he is, he'll be the 12th man, most likely.

Brewer has no role with the Mavs. They're not playing en entire backup front line that can't shoot for long stretches. They're not an explosive offensive team as is (even though they've been playing over their heads offensively recently) and because of their lack of shot creators, they need as much shooting as possible surrounding Nowitzki. He'll get occasional spot minutes, just so they can pretend to have a role for him, but he's got no chance of figuring into the rotation (barring injury, of course). Next season, unless they dramatically alter the way they're built, there will be no role for him. So the same problem will remain.

Face it, they got him just to do it (apparently it's fun to stack player on top of player) and to keep him from the Spurs. He is an asset, though, so he could be included in a trade for a shot creator on the wing (Jackson?). That's probably the most likely scenario, because he has no role on the Mavs.

This isn't sour grapes, either. If the Mavs/Spurs were interested in Murphy and he chose the Mavs, I'd be saying he made the right choice.

Why people think there is no role for him this season? The Mavs had to play for stretches Stevenson and Cardinal at SF and it was pretty damn ugly...of course he has a role this season.

Dallas is every bit as good as us and now they have another quality defender. They would be closer in the standings but for a Dirk injury.

That said Dallas is trying to buy a championship. How high over the cap will it take them to win.
