what would be your prime motivation/goal/driving force if you had millions or billions?

Most of what we do is motivated by money...we go to school for the le/degree/accomplishment,etc...
but really we want that because a higher and/or more prestigious degree= a better income, a better career, etc...

We work and try to climb the ladder because it will lead to a better position, better le,etc...which again...equals a better salary.

Guys work hardest when their hard work pays off by a better life, nicer women, sex,etc...which we have been conditioned to believe that with more money...all those things will be possible.

Gals look for the package when choosing a mate...meaning everyone wants the guy with a better job, better looks...and they want a nice COMFORTABLE life and love, security, etc...we all do...again this is also about money.

So having said all that..if you struck it rich today...what would motivate you if you had ALL the money you would ever need for the rest of your life.

Of course-I am talking specifically...about AFTER..you finished spending, acquiring, investing, splurging $$$,etc...

What would you strive or live for...what would be your motivation...purpose...etc...

    Interested to hear your thoughts...

Spending without having to contemplate alternatives...spending without hesitation, being able to afford whatever I want.

Especially travel, being able to choose where to live, during whichever time periods I desire. This part is probably one of the big reasons that drives my spending response. I want to see and "live" the world.

If you're talking about winning a quarter billion in the lottery or something, I'd probably give most of it away after buying a house for family and investing enough to live comfortably (e.g., modest house payment, a reliable jeep or truck every 8-10 years, etc.). Then I'd spend every summer backpacking the entire time though the Sierras, the Beartooths, the Winds, the Cascades, the Northern Rockies, around the Mexican volcanoes, up in Alaska, The Swiss Alps, New Zealand, and so on.

It would depend on the amount. If it were a few million I'd help a few people close that I know really need it and then set up a really nice youth recreational center.

If it were into the hundred millions...then I would buy a very large plot of land(probably the 99 acres right down the street from my parents house) and set up a private residential treatment center for troubled children/teens. Working in the mental heath field will really open your eyes to just how ty CPS really is.

Set myself up to make several purchases within my new means... House etc with less than 10% of the money....

Invest the rest in a diligent, diverse way... The oversight of which would keep me occupied more than a 9-5

    Interesting....

I would do a lot of the same things...travel, learn a whole bunch about our world...see it,taste it,etc...

I am still wondering though...would you lose motivation, since practically anything would be affordable and you could have at the snap of a finger?

I'm kinda wondering...what would motivate you...because for most of us...we have no choice...we are motivated to continue striving because we WANT all of those things...I just seem to have a hard time grappling with the idea...that if you ALREADY have all those good things...what's next? Would you still work hard to reach goals, would you still try to educate yourselves, achieve,etc....?

My motivation has never been the money. I wouldn't change what I'm doing now but obviously I'd be able to open up a lot more doors on my own and I would be able to do it far more comfortably. My options wouldn't be limited by money, which would be amazing.

Don't like to dwell on the what-ifs, but I would definitely feel alot easier in my life. I would be able to pay off the childhood home for me mum and go back and get a PhD or something of that sort. I would up my contribution to charities and consider starting my own non profit if I had a heftier amount of money. Already having experiences of loaning money out to people and not getting it back in return, I would be hesitant to give anyone but my immediate family some money. Then, I would definitely be bi-winning with Charlie sheen at the Aria!

The money is not and has never been my motivation. The money only facilitates my ability to act on my motivation, which is to give my kids a good life and raise them to be caring, responsible adults.

Well, I've heard many stories about lottery winners who were happier before they got rich and I do believe money can make one's life miserable. Is it the only cause? Probably not but it CAN be a cause. Money can turn people into snobs but then again many would say they were snobs all along but the money just brought it out in them.

I wouldn't do a damn thing 'productive' or 'worthwhile'.

Sit at home, learn instruments, play video games, party like a mother er*. Have a kickass shop to muck around in. All on some land with a couple horses. Go backpacking/hiking a lot.

    *after I get a vasectomy.

In today's society, it is unrealistic; but in the time it was taken (circa 1930-1934) and the purpose for which it was staged, it was very realistic. But thanks, I just use it cuz the backstory is cool

nah you'd have to talk to my grandpa about that

72 years old after having money out the ass for so many years, he just gives it away to family at any chance he gets

"money never brought me anything but trouble"
He's probably just disappointed that his grandkid turned out to be such a loser.

My philosophy has always been this: The day I can afford to never work for a living again is the day I never work for a living again.

Though cancer, heart disease or a bitter ex wife will probably kill me before that ever happens.

    And this.

But I would figure out how much money I was earning per hour (whether it's invested money, lottery money, whatever) and every hour on the hour I would tweet "just made another ($$$$$$) this hour. Ha. Ha. Ha."
