Some NAACP supporters plan to boycott the Detroit arm's annual fundraiser over an honor for Kid Rock they say doesn't mesh with the civil rights group's goals.

Kid Rock has a Black drummer. He's made music with Black People. He's from Detroit and helps inner city youth. Racist? No. Oreo that embraces the Confederate flag even though he was raised in the Union? yes.

I never understood the mentality of those who hate a symbol that stands for other things as well. I'm sorry, but just because the confederate states were slave states, doesn't mean all it's symbols should be held in contempt. That flag did not stand for slavery.
you probably meant to say they arent celebrating slavery when they hold up the flag, just this at ude that says they can fight back against a govt they felt was doing them wrong, but unfortunately slavery cannot be separated from the issue because what was it the south was mad enough about to want to secede? slavery. the flag and slavery are tied together no matter how many try to dance around the issue
Now now, WC has a right to agree with what the Confederate REALLY stands for - the right to refuse the government's position when you believe it is wrong (i.e. when it intrudes upon your ability to make a living or personal freedom, i.e. when the suits shut down your entrepreneurial aspirations because IN THEIR HUMBLE IN OPINION you shouldn't have negros working your cotton fields). in fact, we could use some of that same spirit, that's why a lot of us appreciate the Tea Party.

that said...he has just as much of a right to fly that dumb flag as the NAACP has to boycott him.

Um no, flame thrower. I'm going out on a limb here and say Kid Rock is not a racist. The flags means to him and many, many others, states rights, rebellion against the government and individualism. Means the right to live the way you want to live it and slavery has nothing to do with it. I do not think slavery/kkk/rednecks/racist when I see the confederate flag no matter how hard people like you try to make me.
Not my fault that some people are too stupid to separate facts. Slavery was not the only issue. There were other reasons for secession. Southern people were proud, with or without slavery, and believed strongly in the 10th amendment. The cons ution was seriously harmed when the north won.
Consider the probability that is slavery didn't exist, that the north still wanted to treat the southern states poorly. What if we would have had secession and a civil war with no slavery? Do you really think it was only because of slavery?

The confederate flag was created as the new national flag for the southern stated. Nothing more. The battle flag, same thing. Their flag for war.
Are you from Texas like most here? Did you know Texas flew six different national flags over it's history? Should we shun the other five because they are not our national flag?
Not everything of the confederate states was bad. Some people still hold pride today, of the south's struggle for independence. I think most today would say that pride has nothing to do with slavery.

I'm appalled at how many people are so prejudiced against that flag. A flag of freedom. Blacks and whites alike should be celebrating what it stands for. Slavery was already oppressive. The confederate flag did not create slavery. Though it did not include the slaves for it's intent of freedom, that's exactly what it is. A symbol of freedom.

Whatever it once stood for is immaterial now. The swastika used to be a good luck symbol, but I don't think you could get away with wearing one in public claiming that.
That would depend on what the surrounding cir stances were, wouldn't it. Besides, the swastika is a mirror image of it. It's turning the opposite way, so you are wrong. They are not the same.
