NFLPA just moved to decertify. Settlement discussions are over. It's all going to court.

Actually, it was probably a smart move by the union. Now it all goes back to that judge in Chicago? that has historically been pretty pro-players union in his decisions.

I think it was a colossal mistake to decertify! The players are on their own now and don't have a league to play in. On the other hand the NFL owners still own the NFL and have every right to get replacement players for years to come if they want to. Guess what, you and my favorite teams will still be in the NFL and I'll grow to have new favorite players and will have forgotten about the current players. Not to mention the NFL will continue on with the DRAFT and continue to draft NFL quality athletes year after year.

The NFLPA already makes 60 percent and is fighting the owners for billions more. Name me another workforce that makes 60 percent and es for more? The NFLPA wants more money and keep a 16 game schedule. Basically negating the owners a chance to make up for the money they will be out and sky rocketing prices for fans. That means that your 15 dollar draft beer will now be $25 at the game. Merchandise parking, tickets everything will be through the roof if the players get what they want. In other words if the NFLPA gets another huge CBA chunk of money, the NFL will price it self right out of the market and crash. the players and the owners! But the Owners just a little less cause I'll still watch my favorite team regardless of what players are in uniform.

Yeah that's what's going on, except the exact opposite.

The players aren't looking for more, they're looking to keep the status quo.

The owners are the ones saying they're bleeding money and need a bigger cut. And an 18 game season. this is 100% owner greed driven. The players just aren't going to accept that the owners need more money at face value. They asked the owners to open their books, the owners refused, and here we are.

the NFL could lock out for 3 years and fans will still come running back, imo.

I think the minimum salary players are the ones that can least afford a lockout.

The owners will make money with or without the season happening from what I understand.

I got this letter in an email from Roger:

    Dear NFL Fan,

When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players' union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players' union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.

The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).

It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.

We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.

While we are disappointed with the union's actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our League. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.

    Yours,
    Roger Goodell

I can't say I disagree with EricB, though. It's not exactly a great PR move for either the owners or the players.
