It's all coming together now. If the standings hold then LA will make it to the WCF with an 8-2 record at the worst. Plenty of rest

I may start another thread on this, after I look at some old stats. But Portland won tonight because they had about 20 more shot attempts than Dallas. I feel like I'm seeing that a lot more often this season (all over the league) than what I'm used to. I'm starting to wonder if there has been some shift in officiating philosophy that is allowing teams to clog the paint differently, and dominate the game with offensive boards and put-backs.

The Spurs are obviously weak in the middle, so I can see it happening to them. But I've seen it happen to a lot of teams that have plenty of size and athleticism. The Spurs managed to win their last game where there was a huge disparity in shot attempts. But it's one of an uphill battle. The Mavs couldn't overcome it tonight.

Mavs shout 60% vs. 47%, RBs even, AST 30 vs. 19, +3 3G made for same %age, and lose.

    but -6 FT PTs.

That's a great road game from the Mavs, but a strange loss.

Clogging the lane is normally associated with a defensive ploy rather than an offensive one. The Blazers are very long but don't really play a Big lineup, per se. In fact, last night they started Nick Batum and Gerald Wallace at Fs with Aldridge in the post. They just have guys that really efforted OR (i.e. Aldridge, Batum and Camby off the bench). When teams emphasize OR as a strategy, they open themselves up to fast break and early offense scoring from the opposition. The Spurs philosophy is to favor transition defense over OR.

Portland didn't get punished on fast break points last night.

What Portland DID do was turn 15 Dallas TOs into 22 fast break points. There was a huge disparity there and may gave been a key difference in the Blazers win.

Another item worrh noting may have been Ian Mahinmi was -11 while he was in there. Just sayin'.

Nice of them to lose, but I kinda wanted more pressure on the Spurs to win on Friday. I want to see some serious energy and effort against the Mavs. Dallas ain't helping by blowing games this week.

Judging by our record against top playoff teams and Dallas's record in games that mean something, this could be an interesting outcome Friday.

Awesome, and the Mavs are losing to the Warriors by 11 in the first quarter. I think GS permanently has Dirk's number. Cheers!

Dallas is a team that will either loose or win games to get the matchup they want.

It is going to be who you go up against in the first round that is going to be the biggest hurdle and they are going to want to play someone they know they can sweep.

Why? Are they the ones losing games for Dallas and Miami?

Seems like while western powers like the Lakers and up & coming Thunder (my predicted next western conf power) are rolling towards the playoffs, the two texas teams are stumbling/bumbling toward the finish line.

I hope the Spurs get their mojo back come playoff time otherwise this is going to be another short playoff run.

If Mavs are coming off back 2 back losses this week, then playing friday at home may be a win for them. Spurs got a good a$$ kicking on Monday so I hope their heads are in the game and they show up 4 quarters against the Mavs. Wouldn't shock me if Spurs lose to Mavs this week; they match up well w/us.
