Benching Roddy really is a mystery. I would love to know what some NBA coaches are thinking when they make these dumbass moves.

Well in Carlisle's case, he's so obsessed with execution that he won't risk letting Roddy make a mistake out there. He'd much rather have Jason Terry brick shots and get curbstomped defensively, just as long as he's always in position and not turning it over.

Ironically, the biggest contributor to the Mavs' situation is that great stretch they had when Butler went out, and Dirk came back from injury. Barea and Stevenson stepped up and Dallas reeled off an impressive series of games. IMO that prompted Donnie and Cuban to not pursue SJax/GWall - they figured they'd be in pretty good shape once Roddy came back and they picked up a Brewer/Pavlovic to round off the roster.

The problem now is that JJB and Stevenson have come back down to earth, and while Roddy is an offensive spark, he can't defend the 2 spot and Carlisle doesn't trust him enough. Brewer is a good defender, but he doesn't provide enough offense for Carlisle's sake. Had they gone out and got a 2-way threat like Jax or Wallace, they could've cut back on JJB/Stevenson/Cardinal/Terry. Now all they can do is hope that their lemons turn back into plums (although Terry is playing better of late, there's a good chance that it's fool's gold).

Well I'll tell ya what we're thinking. Not saying that I'm a coach but the great ones have the same mindset as me.
    You're trying too hard.

Well then Barea would get almost all those minutes Terry uses.

this is the sad truth i always thought sjax would provide something we never had on our roster at the 2 guard position in years: size, leadership, defense and toughness.. a player like him is what we desperately need in the playoffs..all we have to offer now is a midget backcourt..

..and of course, the worst coach in the entire nba.

And here you have the Mavs taking away a player that would better fit the Spurs lineup.

Mark Cuban must be beside himself.

    Carlisle is a ing idiot.

Rotations are def. iffy to say the least. Brian Cardinal playing meaningful minutes
this time of the year is worrisome. Only real issue I have is Cardianl getting minutes.
If the playoffs turn out to be a dud once again, Carlisle won't be the reason

i said it since roddy's first summer league that the dude was our 2nd most talented player and needed big time minutes..can you believe some actually scoffed me back then and said "Roddy isn't ready tbh, RC knows what he's doing "

they ain't doin but stunting the kids growth and hurting our ceiling as a team

    Must be bad.

Imagine having Matt Bonner play significant minutes on Dallas even when he's completely off.

    That's equally as painful.

^^ What Mavs fans are going through pales in comparison to what Spurs fans went through the last 2 years.

Last year, we had to endure Finley for the first 55-games before he went over to screw Boston, we had Bogans for the entire season and Bonner playing solid minutes.

In 2009, we had Mason, Finley and Bonner as starters with Udoka, Vaughn and Kurt Thomas off the bench.
