This should be fun
I really like both of these players - I'm curious to see who you guys think is a better player at this point. Nowitzki is much more offensively polished, and can shoot from anywhere. While this is good, I still think Pau is a great spot up mid-range shooter. That shot is just money to him. I also think Pau is a lot better than Dirk in the low post.
As far as Nowitzki having greater range, this leads him to being a lesser rebounder than Gasol, and I also think Gasol is a slightly better defender than him. Over their careers, we see Gasol with a superior field goal percentage of 52.2 vs Dirk's 47.6, which is somewhat understandable, due to Dirk's greater range. What I will give Nowitzki, though, is that he had to carry his team more than Gasol.
Very different players, but I would love to see Dirk with Gasol's back to the basket (post up) game. He would conceivably be the hardest player in the league to guard.
Curious what you guys think.

The last time Gasol had to carry a team, Dirk's team swept them. Enough said. Dirk is the better player but Gasol is on a better team.
Dirk's the better player, Pau's the guy I'd want for the purposes of winning a championship. Just easier to build around or add to.
Much easier to compliment bigs that play like bigs - securing the boards, facilitating offense and being a deterrent in the paint.
Oh please, completely different teams. Dallas had much better players than Memphis.
Uh Dallas had a good team because of Dirk. Take Dirk out and they are crap. It's been proven many times.
Pau couldn't carry a team like Dirk has.

Had Pau kept his level from the start of the year, you could compare. Right now clearly Dirk is still the better player.
Well, I think that the fact that Gasol has 2 championships (and that he was a large part of both of them) has to lend itself to something. Also, seems like 90% of the posts so far are from Mavericks fans. I think there's more of a comparison there than some of you would like to think.
