I'm also partial to the Black Saint and the Sinner Lady by Mingus, but I won't bother posting all the parts. There are also some great versions of many songs on Porgy and Bess.

Good to see Iron & Wine mentioned. Some of the finest lyrics in music today, or ever.

I clicked this thread hoping someone would mention this^
I've actually always preferred this guy's cover of the song.
Admittedly, the video's ing terrible, but...still.
It's a good cover, but what's missing is Gabriel's voice. It's an instrument all its own. Admittedly, I'm a very big Gabriel fan, owning several LPs and most every CD.
Damien Rice - Accidental Babies
Damien Rice - Rootless Tree (Abbey Road)
Ben Harper - Happy Everafter In Your Eyes
...always considered this song a masterpiece...
Sounds like Jeff Buckley.
After my father died, I used to listen to this almost daily. It is heartbreaking. It is such a beautiful piece. Bach is probably my favorite classical artist.
Another beautiful song to remember a lost father. My wife has tears every time she hears this song:
Good one.
If we're gonna go Beatles, then let's not around.
You've got the best of both worlds
You're the kind of girl who can take down a man and lift him back up again
You are strong but you're needy, humble but you're greedy
And based on your body language and shoddy cursive I've been reading
You're style is quite selective though your mind is rather reckless
Well I guess it just suggests that this is just what happiness is
And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses
Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you write
Kind of turn themselves into knives
And don't mind my nerve you can call it fiction
But I like being submerged in your contradictions dear
Cause here we are, here we are
Although you are biased I love your advice
Your comebacks they're quick and probably have to do with your insecurities
There's no shame in being crazy, depending on how you take these words
I'm paraphrasing this relationship we're staging
But it's a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses
Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you say
Kind of turn themselves into blades
And the kind and courteous is a life I've heard
But it's nice to say that we played in the dirt
Cause here, here we are
Here we are
We're still here
And it's a beautiful mess this is
It's like taking a guess when the only answer is yes
And through timeless words and priceless pictures
We'll fly like birds not of this earth
And tides may turn and hearts disfigure
But that's no concern when we're wounded together
And we tore our dresses and stained our shirts
But its so nice today, oh the wait was so worth it
Mykonos by The Fleet Foxes.
Fleet Foxes have some amazing songs, but this one stands out for me. The end of the song is near perfect.
