    Yep.

Apparently CF has never seen the type of individual that enjoys causing other people pain. There's a good chance that if Casey turns and walks away, the kid follows him down the hallway, punching him the whole time. It's ludicrous to suggest that after weeks/months of dealing with that bull , presumably in the same fashion as he did for the first 3-4 punches, that they were going to stop anytime soon.

Some bullies hit other people because they know they won't hit back.

Also, trying to shoe-horn every bully into the same pattern of behavior or to say they're all looking for the same thing from their bullying is laughably ridiculous.

i was never bullied in school due to the fact that i was friends with some of the worst people at school. so when did hit the fan and some chump tried to get in my face, i'd have a couple bigger dudes i knew come to me and ask me to point those fools out and the matter was taken care of. plus, like you CF, i went about my days not being noticed per se.

i can tell you though, not all bullies are the same and just as CH pointed out, some will bully you right out of school.

also, the best solution is never the one mommy and daddy told you, "just walk away". the best solution is to stand up tall and don't back down! i believe in self-esteem, self-worth and if you don't have the self-esteem to stand up tall or the self-worth to stop the bs, then you deserve the pain.

at that boxing gym i was part of we had kids roll through there who thought they were the from the get go. those kids would bully the regulars for no good reason and when my instructor had enough of it, he'd pair those kids off. guess what happened? the bullies got beat the down in the ring and finally learned their place.

i'm all for fighting as long as it's to prove you're not a pussy and you won't take no bs from anyone who sees you as a target.

You must not have gone to the same middle school that I attended because there the vast majority of fights were between girls.
yeah, I've seen plenty of girl "fights" and while there's no denying that there are more girl fights, I've never seen anything but pulling the other girls head down by her hair while frantically hitting the top or back of the head. And no I'm not just talking about the fights between the preppy white girls, I'm talking about the fights between Big Rayneesha and Big Precious. Girls most definitely fight more but 99% of the time the only damage done is to the hair and nails

I don't buy it. Not long term, at least. Bullies are looking for a response. Go long enough without giving them the response they're looking for, and they'll eventually move on to someone who will.
Sorry CF, this entire post is complete bull .

You, nor I, have been bullied. But I wasnt bullied because my response was always outrageously disproportionate to the attempt at bullying.

I knew more bullies than I care to admit, devious like shoving a popsicle, stick and all, up some poor kids nose on the playground then beating them to oblivion. Unprovoked all-out assaults on totally fearful prey, beating them into unconsciousness for no. damn. reason. at. all.

There is only one way to deal with a bully and thats to completely overreact with a disproportionate response that they'll never forget. The "bullied" will never have to worry about it ever again because that stuff resonates throughout the school in a hurry.

Much the same as a hungry lion wont even try to fell a water buffalo because the risk-reward ratio isnt right.

the first one would've been the best if he finished him off, the second nearly made me jump out of my seat yelling "YES!" and the third I've already seen even on this site

Because cyber bullying is not good. Just think about what Ritchard feels whenever he sees the videos. Poor boy.

He ended the fight before it even started. He didn't seriously injure the other guy, just wounded his pride. Perfect strike, IMO.

When some crackhead in' junkie fights out of his shirt, past a panicked pros ute to come to, I don't think the question of who threw the 'first punch' is really all that relevant. Dude needed to get knocked the fugg out. He pretty much did.

My son (14) is head and shoulders taller than all but a handful of kids at his school and it's amazing to me how much the smaller boys like to talk a lot of to him to get him to react. And he's not a scrawny guy--or a sissy--either.

He's gotten a lot better at blowing them off than he was when he was younger, because it's never really been anything more than talk. I absolutely would support him for defending himself the best he would need to against violence, but encourage him to instead find an adult if at all possible.

Fighting in JISD will not only amount to suspensions, alternative school, expulsions and/or arrests ... but up to a $500 fine and a court appearance for the parents.

That being said, I would have paid the $500 fine for Casey.

Upon reading DRs post I reevaluated my position. I came from somewhere that if you didn't stand up for yourself the beatings would not only continue but they would get worse and you'd get all your jacked daily. You had to make it painful for them and if I could have body slamed them like Casey did then I would have so I can't knock the kid one bit in retrospect.

Then WTF is he being bullied for? There's ALWAYS some underlying reason, I highly doubt they just randomly chose him. Is he a bag?

lol, in all seriousness, what do you think is the most probable reason..or has your son told you why?

Can't read the whole thread, but as much as I despise and discourage violence of any kind, I think that what some are calling an overreaction, may very well have been the only thing that big kid could have done. I agree that bullies are just trying to evoke a reaction, but I don't agree that ignoring it makes the bully back down.

Having never been punched in the face, I can only assume that it can be disorienting to say the least. Also never having punched another person, I have to assume that it takes a certain amount of skill and coordination to land an effective one. I personally would probably bypass the punch in favor of a more sure thing; that's what I think the big kid did. A poorly placed punch would have only been a sign of weakness and prolonged the bullying.

It's a shame they had to resort to violence, but I'd be surprised if it's an action the big boy will ever have to repeat again. And clearly the little runt needed to be knocked down a peg or 2 and ideally, will never need to be "reminded"

I've actually asked him if it was because he acted like a .

He said no ... he's just a big white boy in a predominantly hispanic & black school, and that it happens with all the bigger guys. The little runts like Ritchard thinking they are all kinds of tough because they don't think they'll get a response. Fortunately, my son thinks they are all "re ed" and knows he could hurt them pretty badly if he wanted to. And he could ... that's that I know. There's also been a huge overall fighting problem at that school for the last couple of years, and I can't wait until next year when he's out of there.

It's a tough situation as a mother ... you don't want your son to be a big pussy, but you don't want him to get hurt/in serious trouble ... or seriously injure someone else, either.
