Gregg Popovich after the Bobcats game:

“It was great to have the bench come in, so Manu wouldn’t have to play too many minutes. I wanted to play Tony even less, but he’s the youngster of the group. To have Steve come in and everyone off the bench, George, Gary, Steve all came in and did a great job. DeJuan does his job every night and hopefully he’ll be alright with his wrist; we’ll check him out.”

Classic trap game, Spurs need to jump on this team hard and fast and then let the bench close out a rout.

i hope Pop gives Dice the night off in favor of starting Splitter...though Dice might be the only guy that can guard Lee.

Splitter has the lateral movement to do so but Lee might draw some quick fouls on him.

I don't think it's occurred to Pop yet that Splitter is a center and Duncan is a power forward, and that they can both play on the floor at the same time. It's entirely possible that the reason Pop hasn't given Splitter any burn is his desire not to take minutes away from Timmy.

    This.

Goldenstate got routed last night. Teams usually play hard after an embarrassment. We need to take them seriously!

The Spurs are supposed to be trying to get rounded into playoff shape. There should be no more trap games.

I still can't believe Pop doesnt play them together. It's like he completely forgot about the effectiveness of the Tim/Oberto combo....

Tiagos already the 3rd best defensive big we have and potential to be 2nd if given playing time and hes every bit as effective as a PnR player as Blair is....

That said hes probably getting a DNP tonight. hope i'm wrong.

I had grand visions of a new twin tower lineup this season, and there was a Pop quote early on that made my blood run cold, where I suddenly realized that Pop saw Splitter as a backup to Timmy, and STILL saw Blair as a center. The good feelings about restored Spurs defense have been eroding ever since.

The three guard lineups would also work much better with Duncan and Splitter on the front line. Much more ability to guard the rim coupled with the ability to just pick and roll the crap out of everyone.

The Spurs only need to look at the standings to see the Lakers still charging. The mavs and lakers will be fighting for the two seed in the west til the final games of the season. I'm not against the plan being to rest McDyess, but I don't want to see him out of uniform tonight, just in case he is needed. This is no time to give a game back to the field. When the Spurs cinch up the home court advantage for the entire playoffs, then sit the 30 year old guys. If they can clinch HCA within the next 8-9 games that would give Pop 10 - 12 days to rest the vets, and also 4 or 5 games at the end of the season to play Splitter.

Wow. A game thread which devolves into a Splitter-minutes thread on the first page. I just wish everyone could forget about that guy for a minute. Leave him alone/get off his jock. He will not be a factor in the playoffs this year.

I guess all the ranting about is that ,HCA is pretty much locked up,,,all that is left is to see if Splitter develops for the rest of the season for the playoffs, when bonner dissappears...
