If it's like ME2, then it's a definite stepback. Just like ME2 was a stepback from ME1.
It's worse than ME2, and I liked ME2.
I will say this though, once you pass the expidition to the deep roads, it does get a little better. Not by much though.

id post an opionion on this but i can't even get to do so because im one of the lucky few affected by the freezing issues going on with the game.. so upset after s ing out the 60 bucks.. if this doesn't get a patch by the end of the gamestop returns deadline.. i'd have to take this one back..
Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoyed both ME1 and ME2.
I just have high expectations for RPGs now thanks to Bethesda spoiling us.
Reduced inventory, taking away side quests (or simply not having enough), no free roaming worlds ... these are inadequacies in the current era of gaming and beyond if you want my honest opinion.
The reality is, I have been questioning whether Baldur's Gate 2, released in late 2000, is actually more advanced than ME2 or DA2? At least, in terms of the actual gameplay's overall depth. With the expansion one could play BG2 for hundreds of hours and multiple times.
Hahaha. Someone got banned from the Bioware forums for criticizing the game. That's whatever, right? But his forum account was linked to his EA account, and that got his EA account banned as well. He can't play DA2, or any of the DLC he got that came with it. Pathetic.

The biggest problem for me is the lack of atmosphere. The game takes place in such a small area as it is, and they recycle so many of the dungeons and building interiors over and over. I can't really judge the storyline yet (which has always been one of Bioware's strongest points). I'm into Act 2 and so far there really is no storyline yet. Only some vague promise that Hawke will become an important figure.
The game is fun... I like it. Just not sure it's up to Bioware's standards.
Even the Devs know the game is horrible.

I am severely disappointed like everyone else. It is not a 10, but it certainly isnt a 4 like you see from other fan reviews.
Its a bas ized version of DAO, stripped of everything the first game did well, removal of party equipment customization with a story that isnt even mildly important or even really explained.
If this were a standalone game (not DA2), it would be a good game...not great, but a different alternative to say an Oblivion or DAO.
But since it is, as the le purports, the second iteration of DA, then there is no other conclusion than to say it is deeply disappointing and a complete slap in the face of DA fans.
4chan's /v/ is the reason it's a 4 on Metacritic. I'd give it something closer to a 6 or 7.

Agree 100%. It's disappointing as a sequel, deserving of alot of the criticism it's getting. But it's far from garbage.
The game itself is not bad, I played through the whole thing and actually started another character....
My problem is that, when they came out with Origins, they where deliberately harking back to the days of Baldurs Gate to show that style of play was still viable, and I loved it.
Then they sold out with this game.
Thats why Im so pissed. I ing KNOW its because of EA.... Bioware should have never sold themselves to the equivelant of the ing devil when it comes to games.
Bethesda is my last bastion..... If they sell out like Bioware did, I many never play a PC game again. Luckily, with the Purchase of ID Software, I dont see that happening.
I'm confident it's the doing of EA as well. I've watched them destroy franchise after franchise. One of my all-time favorites, Command and Conquer, was run into the ground by those s - all in the name of the almighty $$.

From speaking with my brother-in-law who gets into every beta known to man, I am starting to think DA2 is the way it is because the Old Republic is far more like DAO than one might think for a MMO.
BTW, same brother is a ridiculously fussy game player, especially when it comes to MMOs. He says the game is so smooth and fleshed out that Bioware's list of priorities for the testers are:
1. Graphics: hows it run on your system? Any glitches? etc.
2. Immersion: hows the story? attachment to character?
3. Latency: es? Lag? wait times?
...and thats it. He's played everything and he says that nothing will ever touch Star Wars Galaxies in the MMO market (he thanks WoW), but SWOR is second place even in beta.
The game is damn near finished. He thinks SWOR will be released on May 25th because beta ends one week before then and its obvious correlation to Episode 1's release date.

i came late to the party, but my impression is that i should only invest in dragon age: origins and mass effect 1 and skip the sequels?
I didn't really like Mass Effect 1 so can't comment on the sequel but yeah give DA 2 a miss.
