Last year Manu had a higher PER than Bryant (both behind Wade) and may surpass him (23.82 Bryant and Manu at 22.35 again this year and also has a higher TS%, 0.548 >0.548
Bryant is rightfully considered the better player but the difference once again not as great as LAL fans and the media makes it when Manu healthy and playing close to the same minutes (Bryant outscores Manu about 25 to 18 but takes about 4 shots more a game in about 3 minutes more a game)!

2009-10 Wade> Manu than Bryant in PER
if you average there two years they are about the same exactly, again, Bryant the superior player but not by a lot statistically or in any other meaningful regard and Manu not Bryant has the longrange clutch 5 year stats factor down:
Not only is Ginobili the new Batman, he's also Mr. Clutch. His shooting percentage isn't that great, but he's at the top of the list because he gets to the line often and makes his free throws when he does

Meanwhile as ESPN's Mr. Abbott reiterated K. Bryant is vastly over-rated for his end of game play:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/pos...in-crunch-time
No matter how you define crunch time -- from the last five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime to the last 24 seconds -- and no matter how you define production -- field goal percentage, offensive efficiency, David Berri's Wins Produced, the results tell the same story: Bryant is about as likely to hit the big shot as any player.
ESPN Stats & Information's Alok Pattani dug through 15 years of NBA data (see table below) -- Bryant's entire career, regular season and playoffs -- and found that Bryant has attempted 115 shots in the final 24 seconds of a game in which the Lakers were tied or trailed by two or fewer points. He connected on 36, and missed 79 times.
One shot for all the cookies. And the NBA is nearly unanimous that this is the guy to take it, even though he has more than twice as many misses as makes?
His crunch-time production is slightly higher in the first half of this season, but still certainly not the best in the league. And analyzing any large number of games, one year, five years or 15 years, and defining crunch time a number of different ways, shows the same pattern. (There are many ways this has been sliced.)
Bryant shoots more than most, passes less and racks up misses at an all-time rate.

LOL the things spur fans hold on to. who cares? If Bryant finishes ahead which he probably will ... why should that change your opinion that Manu is closer to Kobe than most people think?
I admit I think Kobe is better and TBH significantly so ... but anyone that argues he is >>>>>>> or some other homer bull is a Kobe fanboi or Laker homer. (I say he is about >> better ...LOL)
Not saying you shouldnt be proud or happy of how manu is playing, in fact, early on I felt he HAD to be in the MVP convo ...when many dismissed it. But he tailed off some and parker came on and the talk quited by me and plenty of others.
But a stat like PER shouldnt change your mind one way or another. If you look at it Paul is also having a better season than Manu which is also bull .
LOL LAL fans already angry when facts are facts, and full credit was given to Bryant as the better (but slightly) player?
who cares he blows at 3s and loves to chuck and air balls all the time
not angry where do you see anger? I just said if he does pass him or not doeas that really make a big difference? are you really swayed by a few % points on a formula that favors PG's? Look at the top 25 in PER a lot of bigs and PG's ... and only thing I said with anger that no matter what PER says no way Paul is having a better season than Manu ...even after the missed 3 down 2 and the airball ... LOL
Kobe vs Manu..
Kobe - Better mid range shooter, More or less equal in 3 Pt Shooting, Better rebounder, More stronger finisher, Better defender, far more selfish.
Manu - Mostly selfless, more crafty, better passer, better ball handler, smart team defender, an equal as a compe or.
Kobe is better than Manu, but both are equal as compe ors..that is what matters to me.
Manu like Bryant has the stones to take the shots at the end no matter what and I am fine with Manu shooting at the end as I am sure LAL fans are with Bryant despite the ups and downs - both fabulous players and compe ors and last two years always in the top 3 in PER but bring more to the table than even what that statistical formula shows in both cases.
One thing I also think they both get screwed on going to the line vs. other top players - Manu was hacked brutally on several plays with no calls near end of the game (one leading to a 5 point swing when Blair missed a putback and Denver sprinted back and hit a long 3) and the same thing has happened to Bryant on several games I have watched. Wade, James, Durant and especially Rose get more calls now it seems time and time again.
