A better question would be does Manu make it into the HOF.

Charles Barkley never won the championship, put up numbers comparable to James (fewer points, but more rebounds on average), and is in the NBA hall of fame. I'd say it's virtually assured at this point that James gets in, even if he were to end his career without any rings.

Top three all time in PER and he would also get the sympathy vote. He would be a lock.

He would most definitely get in...but, at this point, which team does he go in under? The Heat or the Cavs?

Yes he gets in ... there are many who have done less that are in.
Lebron is already a great player sure-fire HOF'er only question is will he make a run at GOAT status or will he be like Kobe in the running for GOAT SJ (Since jordan) Kobe wont catch MJ ... Lebron still can.

Being that we are supposing that his career ended today, (injury/death/insanity) and supposing that the rules for the BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME (not NBA HOF) still hold, there would presumably be a waiting period before he was eligible, I think his short, pre-playoff stint with Miami would be viewed similarly to Karl Malone with the Lakers, and because of his success at High School and his NBA MVPs and dragging a truly questionable team to the Finals (granted, he may have had the easiest path since the undefeated Miami Dolphins), but he gets voted in on numbers alone, and bolstered by some solid playoff runs, AS A CAV.

Theoretically LBJ could try to catch MJ, but there's a tiny chance IMO at this point. He loves holding the ball and has a great passing game, but his offense/scoring ability is not even close to MJ's, and I don't see that changing.

To me it's not about scoring. duncan is considered the all-time PF and his scoring numbers are very good but far from Jordanesque or even Shaquillian ...
I just think right now many believe he is the best player and if not at least top 3. If he maintains this level of play... and wins multiples he has a shot but it maybe slim.

LeBron needs to improve his jumper and actually develop a post move which isn't liquid before he is even in the same sentence as MJ, that and a few rings.

The answer is an easy yes. If Shaq can be voted to the NBA top 50 at 50 years after playing only about 3 seasons, LeBron gets in the HoF. Besides, since the question is, if he stopped playing today, there must be a compelling reason for that to happen:

Death: Roberto Clemente, Pittsburgh Pirates. That however, wasn't by natural causes, every player flies, any plane could crash.

On the negative side, only crime, gambling, or steroids could keep him out. I doubt LeBron kills anyone or rapes in Colorado. Pete Rose, Roger Clemens, and Barry Bonds may never see the HoF for the latter two offenses.
