yeah, David Lighty together with JaJuan Johnson are my two wishful and realistic option to our first round pick, they are two senior guys who have talent, could contribute right away and play defense.
Have you watched JaJuan Johnson at all this season? He's soft.
You absolutely do NOT offer a first round guarantee to an already 23 YO 5th year Sr. with one medical red shirt year already on the books. This is a guy with potential, but you don't want (or need) to pay for it. So few teams are willing to develop players that he will likely be a second round draft and cut. Think: Da'Sean Butler scenario.
This guy Is good, really good. If hill gets traded lighty will fill in the role nicely.
That cat is softer than wet cake.
That's it and that's all!!

Lighty said he had worked out for Oklahoma City and has other workouts scheduled with San Antonio, Houston, Chicago and Boston.

First stop on the Lighty Tour... San Antonio Spurs.... Workout in the am
If he fell to 58 - could be good pick up - I would love to see this guy or Jimmy Butler fall to us in 2nd - looks like he is working out for teams that make defense priority - if you can still consider the Spurs in that category
We don't have anyone like Lighty. He is a lock down defender and at some point will get significant minutes in this league on that alone.
Interested in his NBA career. Someone will grab him in the mid-2nd round and we could see some scoring bursts form him.
Still interested in where he ends up. Undrafted but could be a nice pick-up for someone.
can we sign him as an undrafted FA?
is he a 2 or a 3? hopefully we can move rj and mcdyess for a big. would be a nice cheap pickup as backup sf till butler fully heals.
By yesterday morning, Bell said, Lighty had invitations from five NBA teams to visit their facilities and meet their personnel. With less than a week remaining before the collective-bargaining agreement between NBA owners and players expires and the expected lockout of players begins, Lighty has decided to visit Atlanta and Phoenix.

He's almost identical to Danny Green, a top notch defender who can shoot the 3 and not too much else. The thing about Green is that he has two years NBA experience already, but is only one year older than the 23 YO Lighty.
A player like Lighty would have been a desirable pickup maybe a year or two ago, but with established wing starters and young prospects like Kawhi, Neal, JA, Green, and Butler, there just isn't really even a practical camp spot for him.
Spurs wanted to have him at their minicamp:

Lighty said the Cavaliers, Pistons, Suns, Spurs and Hornets also wanted to bring him in. Why the Hawks? “It was about [looking at] teams that I would like and fit my style of play,” he said. “They have open spots and they have free agents at the two guard.”
I'm glad the Spurs reached out, but he's right -- there are better places for him right now
Lighty has signed with a team in Italy.
Lighty will work out with Spurs and Cavs:

Spurs should have seen something they really like to keep looking at him.Former OSU Guard David Lighty will work out for Cavs. Spurs reportedly will work out Lighty as well.
Next Danny Green maybe?
I'm sure that's the idea. It's always a good idea for the Spurs to keep inexpensive guys like this in the pipeline. Especially when there's a risk someone could extend an offer we don't want to match.
Bring him on and ship Neal/Blair for a first round pick. Then ship Bonner for a pair of second round picks.
