Even though they lost last night - damm I am still proud to be a fan of them and their effort and guts. Plus the silver lining is that we now have a confident Hill and Pop finally played Splitter some minutes, as he continues to prove he is a NBA ready good (to fine) legit big man (who with his court savy and playing and practicing with Dice and Duncan - will only get better in the future). A number of others also stepped up at times and despite some erratic play they did well and that third quarter was as hard as any Spurs team has played in weeks. It was also a back to back (with major travel) for many of them playing major minutes. Meawhile, Mr. Neal is a gun sllinger who will fire back with a vengence when it counts in particular and he got totally screwed on a key drive and what should have been a foul shot, so perhaps he was unwilling to drive more in the 4th with those questionable zebras out there. All in all:

Very Proud to be a Spurs fan!

Seriously... Hill is ing balling. With him back in form, Gary still surpassing all expectations, Tiago confident and playing, we have a great shot to make a serious run when the troops come back. If we could just sit Bonner the rest of the year we'd have the 'ship on lockdown.

Agree - Bonner should get 5 minutes and 3 shots max then unless Spurs are holding a lead or he is hitting them - yank right out for Splitter and/or Novak (who is quicker on defense at least and as good as spreading the floor). Blair should only spell Dice a few minutes a game AND SHOULD NEVER BE ON THE COURT WITH BONNER PLEASE POP

Blair and Splitter do and did play well together - and can get boards, and Splitter covers up for both Blair or Bonner some defensively.l I am fine with either combo for ten minutes or so MAX a game!

Tiago is great recently. Hopefully he gets more minutes. He has size, he is rebounding, and defending. He should be a great matchup for OKC and Lakers bigs.

Bonner should be playing only in home games. This is only way he could bring something positive.

I was impressed with James Anderson as well he kind of looked like the guy who was playing well before his injury and Green moved well, both those guys played solid D.

they did what i would expect a great team of the future would do. they had that great spurt in the third, and played well most of the fourth. i really didn't expect them to finish. if they keep most of those young guys, the ginobili and duncanless future is not so dark

I'd like to see some more of Danny Green during the regular season
I loved his defense, he was very active, quick and made a decent job on Andre Miller + he hit some shots and looked confident, the exact opposite of Richard Jefferson.

What do you guys think of this lineup?

    Parker, Hill, Manu, Duncan, Splitter

A little short but I prefer being smaller in size than in hustle and in driving to the basket (RJ).

    Depth:
    Parker, Quinn
    Hill, Neal, Anderson
    Manu, Jefferson, Green
    Duncan, Blair, Novak
    Splitter, McDyess, Bonner

i dig that lineup, however we have to think of our bench and the playmakers we'd be left with... i mean i love james anderson esp. once he gets in shape that dude is going to be better than people think.

but right now i think we need hill to step up and penetrate like a pornstar off the bench , shoot it might even be a good idea to put neal in at 2, so when parker/manu drive they dish it out for some easy ass buckets. parker neal manu duncan splitter. you dont need alot of height at the 1 or 2 spot if you have twin towers to guard the paint.

I started a thread about that same lineup last PM and it would be a good one and yes about Green, more of this guy and Anderson and less RJ please!

(would drive a bus but have another trouble bussing around my teenager, 13 y/o and devoted Spurs fan around in the DC area with my beat up G35 Infinity! Feel like a damm taxicab most of the weekend)

Best loss of the year. Seeing our bench up by 8 over a quality team was sweet. We are playoff ready.

Personally, I feel kind of "meh" over the game. Does it really matter how hard they played? Most of them will hardly see any minutes in the playoffs, where you go 8 deep for the most part. You will not win championships with undersized scrubs.

No doubt that the Spurs have some gems sitting on their bench. However there are some major duds as well that are just heavyweights on that same bench, and one in particular gets playing time over one of the gems.

Rookie Anderson keeps head up despite lost season
    Jeff McDonald

..."I’ll just wait for my name to be called,” Anderson said. “I’ll do whatever I can to support the team. If that’s standing on the sideline, cheering my guys on, that’s what I’ll do.”

...“It’s a big adjustment, going from playing a lot of minutes to just playing every now and then,” said Anderson, a three-year starter and 2010′s Big 12 Player of the Year at OSU. “It’s just part of it. I’m just learning from sitting on the sidelines, picking up things here and there.”

except for *Bynum the old Lakers have no such potential on their young ones sitting around and remain pathetic after their top 8. *Which this emergent star did for half or more of his career.

Lakers may win despite their lack of depth but remain dangerously thin if anything goes wrong and their future is not that strong lacking picking up a Paul or Howard for an "irregular price" ala, Gasol, or some not totally unexpected crap like that.

It absolutely matters. We won rings in the past because players like Manu who came off the bench brought energy to the game, the sub wasn't a letdown time that required a sacrifice of 10pts just to get some starters some rest. In fact, the 2nd squad usually turned it up and opened the lead.

It's critical that the bench be able to play together.

I'm just glad the Splitter is playing so well, with Duncan returning to the lineup the Spurs' front line will be pretty damn good. Let's just hope Splitter gets AT LEAST 20 mins a game during the playoffs, cause he's what they're going to need to win a 'ship.

IMO Splitter is the 2nd best Mexican in the NBA (First being Ginobili of course).

Nah, who cares if quin got 8 pts, he won't play a minute in the playoffs. No team plays only their bench out there, most have couple of starters as well. It was good to see, neal, hill, splitter, blair but all the other scrubs, were meh.

I think the most interesting part about this game was Pop's approach to it - this game was a sharp contrast to every other game that depends on the System. Assuming the quotes are true, in this game Pop simplified everything and allowed players to go with their instincts rather than the Byzantine, chess-like approach to the game where every move in the offense is intensely analyzed. Obviously the System has been a huge success, but in loosening the reins I think we get to see that many of the players who don't normally get to play do in fact have some potential and can produce.

Another thing - I know it's probably never going to happen, but it would be interesting for the second team to be almost its own separate en y that comes in and plays this pressing style of game. Tiago, Blair, Neal, Hill, Anderson - that could be an exciting second team for limited stretches to try and wear down the other team. Crazy idea, but could be interesting. In fact, for first year players who are deemed too inexperienced to learn the System, what if instead of sitting on the bench and learning nothing, they were allowed to play like the team did versus Portland? Anyway...
