Wow George vs Evan![]()
Jon Fitch and B.J. Penn are set for a rematch July 2 in Las Vegas at UFC 132, the promotion announced on its website.
Meeting at welterweight in February, Fitch and Penn fought to a three-round majority draw in Sydney, Australia. Judges Sal D'Amato and Chris Lee scored rounds 1 and 2 for Penn, 10-9, then had the third 10-8 in favor of Fitch. Barry Foley saw it 29-28 for Fitch.
Penn pushed the action until midway through the fight, surprising Fitch, a bigger wrestler, by grappling and finishing takedowns. But Fitch, ranked No. 2 at welterweight by ESPN.com, dominated the final period, outlanding the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion 149-2.
The result, however, was enough for Penn (16-7-2), ranked eighth in the division, to receive an immediate do-over with Fitch (23-3-1).
"Both fighters look to keep it out of the hands of the judges this time," UFC president Dana White said in a statement.
The rematch, a feature bout on Zuffa's Independence Day weekend event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, joins lightweight fights pitting Melvin Guillard against Shane Roller and George Sotiropoulos versus Evan Dunham.
When Fitch, 33, met Penn in February, it was said to be with top contendership on the line. The UFC has not officially announced if the July bout will share that status.
The announcement of Penn's participation should stem any thoughts of his retirement, something the 32-year-old Hawaiian has contemplated several times throughout his decade in MMA.

Dangerous fight for both guys. If Evan wins, he's back in the contender hunt, but if he loses then he looks like he's another Paulo Thiago that was dangerous then lost his fire. If George loses, he's finished I think - and if he wins then he also gets back in the contender hunt. Huge implications IMO since it looks like Siver/Miller will be next in line after Pettis/Guida.
How the is Melvin not in the le discussions? Shane Roller? Give me a ing break. How about a real fight with a real fighter? No disrespect to Roller, because I LOVE him, but he's not anywhere near Guillard in terms of talent and skill.
This irritates the out of me. Melvin is the real ing deal, and he's paid his dues.

Me neither really. This is where the overtime round would have been great.

I gotta go with Penn in this one...from the training video I saw, it looks like he really had the eye of the tiger!!
Kos, Alves, Condit?
I'd like to see him fight Kos if Kos is healthy. I think Josh would destroy him.
Thiago Silva no?
Penn vs Condit, please Dana!!!
Thiago Silva was busted for tampering with his urine test, not Alves. Too many Thiagos haha
I would like to see Condit/Penn too! If not Condit maybe "stun gun" Kim, Kos, or a rematch with Diego Sanchez...
have bj eat a little more (which shouldn't be hard) and have him fight anderson
Yes
Great Match up Stringer.. And a winnable fight for Penn..
Condit's lobbying for the fight on twitter, and we know he's game and is a former champion. I think of him as a smarter version of Diego haha, definately deserves a le-shot if he finishes Penn - if he can't finish him, then Fitch next for #1 contender. No idea where Penn goes with a win tho, but he's been working on his boxing AND takedowns, so it would be a great fight no matter what.
