i live in Paris and will move in my new flat next month located in the very center of Paris.

It's a 32m2 flat for 1000 euros per month. The Parisian prices seems crazy to me...

So where do you guys live and what is the market price in your respective cities?

32m2? . My bedroom is bigger than that.

$1000 euros? Damn. For $1000 euros a month you can buy a 3000ft (278m2) house in a gated subdivision here in San Antonio...

If my conversions are correct, Paris sounds pretty close to Manhattan. Not terribly surprising.

I'm in New Orleans. $1375/month for about 1050 sq. ft. in a good neighborhood. Kind of insane on a grad student budget, but ridiculously cheap after dealing with California prices for years. No complaints.

I guess we, parisians, kind of get used to live in small spaces. But still, the market here is ridiculous.

32m2 for 1000 Euros = 344 square feet for $1420, or roughly $4.12 per square foot.

I would assume that utilities are included?

My wife and I lease apartments in a small town between Austin and San Antonio, at about $1 per square foot, with just water and cable included (tenant pays for electricity)

You may also pay more if it is furnished, as I think is quite common in Europe, I think.

Texas generally costs about $1-$2 per square foot, depending on area and overall amenities, to my rather limited understanding.

lol...you're just being surprised now that you're moving, by the cost of living in Paris, as a person from France?

Yeah, your rent sounds right on par for what one of my teachers of a a History of Paris class told us, and she lived there about a decade ago and not even in the very center of Paris.. what exactly do you mean by "very center" ...downtown Paris, or literally Ile-de-la-Cite? Dans quel arrondissement?

About $1100 a month, split between 2 people, in a tiny ass one bedroom apartment. Has a bathroom, bedroom, and the kitchen is sort of attached to the living room, but it's small...including the living room. Includes utilities, comes furnished, but we obviously pay cable/internet.

Students get bent over backwards in prices here just because there's so many goddamn students all competing for the best locations. Another reason our rent is high is because our location in our town is unparalleled, and with a balcony.

I own a 2400 sq ft house, and pay 1250 a month for my mortgage. Not a high end, but a good part of town. Oversized yard. San Antonio rocks for real estate. I love watching those "buying a house" shows (generally in other cities/states) and just being totally content with my purchase.

Not bundled up with other smelling frenchmen? Where you can actually see the stars and not the garbage flying around in the streets? Where you aren't governed by a socialist government with residents that rioted to have a 35 hour work week cause they are lazy gots? Constantly afraid of another country invading?

IMO, urban density is much preferable to suburban/rural sprawl.
Dispensing with the need for an automobile is liberating from both a lifestyle and financial perspective.

I live in Paris for 4 years but coming from the french riviera where prices are still ''affordable'' (kind of), it amazes me how expensive this city is (for ex: it will cost you 7-8 euros to drink a fresh pint of lager in a decent bar).

As for my 1000 euros flat, there is no furniture provided. It is located Rue Montorgueil in the 2nd district. So yeah the location is really good.
But I would say there is no real center in Paris. Every district is a little city in itself. Depending on what you are looking for, you might find your own parisian center (some of them being of course more expensive than others)
