IMO, he already is the COY, but I'm sure Spurfan will provide a plethora of excuses to the contrary.

Fact of the matter is, he deserves it for these reasons:

-Bulls were projected to finish 4th (best case scenario)
-Noah and Boozer have both missed a significant number of games, yet they are still atop the East. Spurs have been injury-free till this past week.

-His rotations/subs utions have been great. The Bulls handle themselves very well under pressure, and that is a quality that comes from the coach. The frantic Stan Van Gundy and deer-in-the-headlights Spoelstra are emotional wrecks in the clutch, and their players exude that.

-Thibs is doing all this while battling 2 (3 if you count Orlando) other elite super teams. The only elite team in San Antonio's conference is the Lakers.

-Despite being in a heated battle with other contenders, he's given valuable time to a young bigman (PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PART, SPURFAN), Asik--who at times looks clumsy, but has now developed into a serviceable player and yet another reliable option/bench player for the Bulls. Asik is only going to get better with the valuable minutes Thibs has given him.

Gregg Popovich has done wonders with the Spurs this year and he deserves MUCH credit for their revival, but his 10-11 campaign has one fatal flaw:

He forgot who's #1. The Los Angeles Lakers. Not developing a promising big (Splitter) who could've helped alleviate LA's frontcourt mismatch has/will cost his team what was otherwise a spectacular season. Your own coach sabotaged your le chances.

You cannot, and will not beat the Lakers in the playoffs if you can't pound the paint. 3-point shooting teams take it in the ass come playoff time. These are things we know.

Congratulations to Thibs...if he doesn't win COY, then it's a sham.

    ^^^^^^^

he's part of the solution, 20% at the very least. the other 80% is the way the Spurs are playing defense ( got Spurfan will blame Bonner/Blair even when they're not on the court )

only the Pop Apologists like alchemist think he deserves it over Thibbs.

Thib turned the Bulls into a legit defensive team like Boston.

Pop turned us into the Suns with a worse offense.

He did follow Vinny Del Negro. Any team that drops VDN as its coach should shoot at least 8-10 games up in the standings based on that alone.

I think he should get it regardless. He has done one of a job there in Chicago.
