Pop's legacy as a defensive coach is a ing joke. He's lucky that he had bruce bowen and Tim/David to make his ass look good during all those years

Revisionist history. He simply doesn't have the right players to play the old defensive game plan, and the change in the rules on hand-checking have totally changed the game.

Neal is too small to start at SF, so they'd have to move Gino to the 3 and he doesn't match up well against many SFs, although RJ is basically a ghost these days so I guess it wouldn't hurt to change something
    Exactly my point.

Why not start Anderson? He's not that undersized, and was playing well before he got injured. If you need size, Bonner and Blair can play small forward for a bit. I don't care, so long as you give RJ a bit of time to recharge. He's obviously not able to play his way out of his miasma.
That's a better idea - start Anderson and run Neal long minutes off the bench.

The problem is Rick Adelman would still be the coach.
Good point. BTW, nice to have you back!

I don't understand why Pop isn't making Tiago a big part of the rotation now that he's contributing and seems to get the NBA game.

How does the top defensive teams do it then? I mean, I agree with the personnel take, but the rule changes sound like a cop-out...

The Spurs' defensive scheme is to outscore the other team from the perimeter.

Alot easier to have a dominant defense when you have the above mentioned players in their prime. As you may of noticed, not as easy to replace those 3 either.

No hand checking on the perimeter has shifted the advantage a long way in the offensive player's direction, particularly slashers. We used to win games in the 70s and 80s and rarely scored 100, but no team can do that consistently any more, so the rules changes have definitely affected the way the game is played. That's no excuse for our pathetic defense this season, but it does partly explain why Pop was able to win with a defensive focus earlier in the decade.

Also, Bruce should be in the HoF. He was a truly special defender, once in a generation guy.

The best part is they get to enjoy RJ and Bonner for another 3-4 years.

Maybe it's time TD went MJ on RJ...get up in his face, challenge his commitment and pride.

Same-same for TD with Pop regarding Bonnerball.

SOMEBODY has to show some in' leadership, Spurs look like a bunch of soft, sad-sacks out there.
