The Spurs aren't going to make it to the second round.
Pops success has always been based on the fact the franchise superstar always bought off on his philosophy of the game. Now that Timmy isn’t the dominant force he once was maybe the other players are now starting to question Pop. I am a die hard supporter of Pop but man I am really starting to hate the fact he is shoving Matt freaking Bonner down our throats.
The Spurs aren't going to make it to the second round.
I don't think they have quit on Pop, but I do think the big 3 have quit on trusting the rest of the team. When they are on the floor together and particulary in crunch time the other two players on the floor are left wide open by opposing defenses, but they will never see the ball. Of course if one of those players is named Bonner, then who could blame them for not passing the ball to an open man.
The players know that without defense they won't go anywhere. From Parker's interview it's clear they are worried about this. Offense can have ups and downs specially when you rely on 3pt so much. But defense is where the focus should be.
I think the players confidence in the team and in themselves were damaged in the process. They don't believe they have what it takes to go all the way.
It was very clear from that Parker interview that the star players KNOW their chances of advancing deep into the playoffs has been compromised because of their inability to defend. Parker was just being honest about it.
Pop is solely to blame for this. He fielded this roster and he sold out his defensive priniciples for more offense. In the past, when he spoke about defense, it was backed up with players, who had both the skill set and mind set to defend. Now, because they have a roster of below average defenders, any talk about defense is nothing but lip service.
I don't know if the team has quit on Pop, but I do believe the star players are off making their own decisions - independent of the coach. If they are frustrated with Pop, I can believe that his stubborn insistence on playing an ineffective Bonner, over a productive Splitter, would be one reason.
The Spurs have many good defenders on the roster, the team has good defensive players at every position, but Pop goes with bad defenders too much and at wrong moments.
Sometimes, it appears as if they have even quit trusting each other.
Wow, what truly powerful post. Breathtaking.
We just need to get our crap together and pull out a win. Tired of losing and getting embarressed.
Well we all know Bonner needs to stop playing ASAP.
Their record is too good to say they have quit on him.. Injuries, lack of rythm, some bad breaks, some bad coaching all have contributed to this 6 game streak..
STFU
yes they will
I don't think the team has quit on Pop. If you want to see how a team quits on their coach, take a look at Detroit.
It's on the players, they keep giving the games away lately, I mean the gameplan has them with a chance to win but bonehead plays by the players has cost them. They are like a bunch of rookies out there, where's the vet leadership that would have called a timeout when they had the ball and a 3 pt lead and like 30 seconds left, not once but in two games. It's shocking that our big 3 can't figure things out.
I don't think they would ever quit on Pop for fear alone. We stood eye to eye for a moment at the Tux and Tennies event and he kind of has a crazy look in his eye like "get out of my way you turd."
