Robert Gates says they're not getting paid. Obama threatens to veto a bill that will pay them for sure.

Is it really that hard to understand?

Is your mind closed to the possibility Gates is lying, or wrong?

I don't recall seeing such a quote. Is it in this thread?

Do I feel its possible Robert Gates is lying? No.

Do I feel its possible he is wrong? No.

It is very cut and dry. Barring new legislation or a budget - those in the military won't get paid. They could pass new legislation, but considering Obama is threatening a veto - I deem that extremely unlikely.

Gates said they are not getting paid and Barry threatens to veto a bill that will pay them for sure. Pretty clear. Thanks.

Give me a plausible scenario where A) Gates has a reason to lie and B) he's (and everyone else for that matter) somehow wrong and yet no one has decided to correct him. If a public official today so much as farts in the wrong direction 30 seconds later the blogosphere is all over it.

I don't care who you blame I just want to make sure that the 3 brain cells trapped in that dome of yours actually connect the dots and realize that barring legislation the military is not getting paid.

My 3 brains cells say they will get paid, barry won't veto anything that would allow them to get paid. It's politics baby, both sides are playing it but if your number one concern right now is if the military will get paid or not, blame barry if they don't.

I think you are listening to fear mongering. Just wish I could be more certain than I am.
Fear mongering from my leadership and, as noted above, the Secretary of Defense? I'm pretty sure the SecDef isn't going to fearmonger his own troops.

MB specifically said a couple of months. Its really pointless to say that the democrats ed up the chance to fix the budget because of electoral politics in an election year considering our political system.

To suddenly expect the democrats to rise above that is akin to expecting a one eyed unicorn to sit down on my lap and tell me a bed time story while making me richer than Bill Gates.

It also completely ignores that had that unicorn shown up, we'd be talking about the same thing just a year later. Better to just get it over with now, IMO.
We have elections every other year. Yet somehow, virtually every other congress before now has managed to get budgets done. Most with situations where the majority party not holding nearly the advantage that the democrats had in 2010. It's anything but pointless to point out how the democrats ed up a chance to fix the budget because of electoral politics. It's the truth. Expecting the democrats to rise above politics to get a budget done is not akin to expecting one eyed unicorns to sit down on your lap and make you rich, it's akin to expecting them to do the job they got elected to do.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that both parties are playing politics here. Still, we wouldn't be here had the democrats not frittered away the majority of 2010 avoiding putting together a budget.

As I noted earlier, Dems said they'd be willing to pass the bill if spending cuts weren't attached.

Both parties are to blame; neither party wants to back down.

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefi...ing-resolution

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he'd accept a "clean" measure to extend government funding, but not the one-week measure expected to pass the House on Thursday.

Reid said that the Senate would be "happy" to do a continuing resolution to help facilitate a deal, but only if it's "clean," meaning that it extends funding at current levels, and without any policy riders.

Thanks. I'd be ok with funding the Pentagon for a week as a stopgap measure with no strings attached.

Welp...the Republicans passed it today. Time for Obama's Ban-Hammer to do it's job.

Boehner is such a head. I'm still dying laughing at the teabaggers throwing Sharron Angle as their candidate and ensuring the Democrats practically-unelectable top head stayed in power in the other chamber.

    Thank-You:
Vital U.S. services such as national defense, law enforcement, emergency medical care and air traffic control would continue, but national parks and museums would close and the processing of passport and a variety of loan applications would halt.
    Processing of passports....

    101's going to be pissed...

If Obama doesn't veto this now after saying he would then he might as well just go back to Chicago because he'll never get anything done.

I've got a feeling he is gonna let it pass. It's just a week extension and a few billion dollars.

Yes LnGrrrR, we're going to need you to provide photocopies of paychecks you're not getting before we can be sure you're not getting paid.

Because, who would believe somebody that's actually in the military?
