2011 NBA Playoffs Predictions: Can Grizzlies Take Down Mighty Spurs?
The 2011 NBA Playoffs are still a couple of weeks away, but the seedings are starting to shape up as we come to the close of another regular season. The San Antonio Spurs do not have to worry about that, as they officially clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

The Spurs have basically gone wire to wire atop the west, holding off a late run by the Los Angeles Lakers. But now, after a long season with many aging veterans, do they have what it takes to make a deep playoff run?

This will likely irk many San Antonio fans, but this team could struggle to get past the first or second round.

As things look right now, the Spurs would host the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. That may not be the best news they could receive, as they are just 2-2 against the team who currently holds the eighth and final spot in the conference.

The Grizzlies won the first two games the teams played, while the Spurs took the last two in March. Still, Memphis has proven that they can still win without Rudy Gay, while San Antonio is sputtering at the wrong time.

The Spurs - much like almost every other NBA team this season - will have no answer for Zach Randolph. He has been a beast inside once again this season, and it should be no different in the postseason. The Spurs may spread the ball around more, which is key due to their age. They are an older team, and cannot become overly reliant on just one player.

The Spurs were the first team to 60 wins this season, which should not be overlooked. But I just don't see this team as being built for a playoff run.

In fact, Dave Del Grande of CBS Sports has the Spurs as only the fifth best team in his latest Power Rankings.

If they are fortunate enough to get past the Grizzlies in the first round, could they find enough to defeat either the Oklahoma City Thunder or Denver Nuggets?

Denver has played much better since they traded Carmelo Anthony, as they are now a more complete team. Oklahoma City just clinched its first division le, and they now have a legitimate playoff tested center to help them advance out of the first round.

The Spurs will most likely be able to get past the Grizzlies, although it could take them six games. The longer they have to play in the first round, the more it hurts their chances to get out of the second. The Thunder and Nuggets are much younger and will not need as much time to heal following a long opening series.

Someone may want to remind this guy what the Spurs record was against Cleveland going into the 2007 finals...and we all know what a great measuring stick that turned out to be for how things would pan out. (0-2 for those of you keeping score)

After a 6 game losing streak I'm trying to figure out how they were 5th. And where was Memphis on this supposedly all-powerful magical list? Oh yeah, that's right.......10th. Double fail on that one.

No . There are no easy teams in the Western Conference playoffs. The Hornets are without West, otherwise they would be a "struggle" as well. BR is just hedging it's bets by saying "struggle". If the Spurs get past everyone, they can say "we said they would struggle, not that they wouldn't win".

BR (Not BR Hornet but him too... sons)

In '03, Spurs were 0-4 against the Suns, and beat them in the first round.

In '05, Spurs were against 2-2 against the Nuggets and Sonics, and beat them in the first and second rounds respectively.

In '07, Spurs were 2-2 against the Jazz, and 0-2 against the Cavs, and still walked with the 'ship.

The point....the regular season != the post season.

There's like, no actual substance in that article, whatsoever - other than talking about Zach Randolph. Fail.
