Who cares now, just get into the playoffs healthy and see what happens from there!
This is why there are 50 tiebreakers. If the regular season plays out like that and Spurs go 1-1 and Bulls 2-0, Chicago would win the FIFTH tiebreaker, which is winning percentage vs. playoff teams in own conference.
The Spurs will have gone 16-10, while Chicago would go 15-9. The difference in the percentage is of 0.010.
I didn't see if anyone took the time to look through this and post it already. Sorry if it's a repeat thread. Just thought some of you might be asking yourselves this question. I know I was.
Hope the Spurs win in L.A. and end the drama.
Who cares now, just get into the playoffs healthy and see what happens from there!
are you sure about this?
Hopefully the Nets can pull a rabbit from the hat.
are you sure? I've read that if they end up tied the tiebreaker is the record against the other conference. Spurs vs East and Bulls vs West record is the same and will be the same at the end of the season. No more games left against the other conference. So if they end up tied and both make it to the finals the tiebreaker wil be a coin flip. Yes, a coin flip.
the infinite tiebreakers are applying only between teams in the same conference IIRC
NBA.com has the fifth tiebreaker as W-L percentage vs. playoff teams from own conference. The sixth is W-L percentage vs. playoff teams from the other conference.
It should be correct. Any NBA insiders in here that can confirm this? Lol.

If Chicago advances to the NBA Finals, it is currently in position to have home court advantage against every potential opponent but the San Antonio Spurs, who are one game ahead. If the Bulls and Spurs finish tied in the standings, due to other even tiebreakers, a coin flip would determine home court advantage in a prospective Finals pairing.
But nowhere on NBA.com does it say there will be a coin flip?
we shall know once all games are played...which is no later than thursday, and wednesday being the last game for the spurs vs suns
I have a feeling the Knicks will end up beating the Bulls Tuesday and we won't have to worry about it. Had the Magic had Dwight Howard yesterday the Bulls would have lost.
This is correct...For all those going down the line of tiebreakers please stop hurting yourself trying to figure it out cause it will probably come down to coin flip.
This is wrong. East vs west tiebreakers do not follow the normal criteria. It goes like this:
1. Head to head (1-1)
2. Record against opposite conference (23-7 for both SAS and CHI)
3. Random draw
As written by Tim Griffin on spursnation.com,
"If the two teams are tied at the end of the season, the first two tiebreakers would be null as the season series is tied at one game apiece and the Spurs and Bulls have equal records against the opposite conference. That would mean that homecourt advantage would then be determined on the third tiebreaker — a random drawing."
Yup...thanks, Dwight...you dumbass...![]()
TWO-WAY TIES
1. Results of games against each other.
2. Better winning percentage within own division (only if tied teams are in same division).
3. Better winning percentage against teams in own conference.
4. Better winning percentage against playoff opponents in own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position).
5. Better winning percentage against playoff opponents in opposite conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position).
6. Better point differential between offense and defense.
Makes no sense to use record against OWN conference playoff teams; just look at w/l of seeds 5 - 8 - much easier hill to climb for Chi.
Coin flip makes more sense.
yes, but if chicago and san antonio make it to the finals (I know its a big if) and the HCA it's decided in a coin flip it will be kind of sad after 82 regular season games.
It'll rather be a funny situation
Yes, but will their be a coin flip to decide who calls it?

Well had we only lost 5 games in a row instead of 6 it wouldn't have been an issue. We really screwed ourselves with that stint. It may make us stronger in the end, but there's a good chance it will screw us out of HCA in the Finals.
What Spurs team did not have to win big games on the road en route to the le? The HC is nice but if we are not road warriors as well then it's not gonna happen..
yes, but every year we won the championship we had HCA in the finals. Always help to start the first two at home
i doubt the bulls will make it to the finals
But they also closed out the 99 and 07 finals on the road. I am really not thinking about it given that the WC is a gauntlet and just getting there is gonna be incredibly hard.. I'm just happy they got the 1 seed in the west..
Why? They have been the best team in the east all year long and the Celts look way worse than last year..
