After having the best record in the entire league throughout most of the year, the Spurs lose their final 2 remaining games to finish at 61-21. In the process, they cede the best overall record to the Chicago Bulls, who finished the season 62-20.

While many focus on the fact that the Spurs lose out on homecourt advantage, should the two teams somehow meet in the NBA Finals, there is at least, one small silver lining: the Spurs move up 1 draft spot from #30 to #29.

In what will likely be a very weak draft, this may not matter much. However, every year it seems some player slides for any number of reasons. Depending upon factors such as who declares, who's available, versus what the Spurs would be targeting, moving up an extra spot could prove advantageous.

But it can't be a silver lining if he misses time. What about the rust factor?

I think you probably meant this comment for the "Silver Lining to Manu's Injury" thread.

    Yep, that's a silver lining.

Bulls, like Spurs, are a team with few holes. It means that they could be go after the same kind of players who are long term project with a lot of upside. It's a good thing to pick before them even if they also got the 27th pick in a previous trade.

I would trade the #29 or even the #27 for the #30 pick in the upcoming draft for homecourt throughout.

Yeah, but would the league approve it?

I wouldn't. The only way that comes into play is if the Spurs meet the Bulls in the finals and it goes the full 7 games. Thats not likely to happen.

That's an assumption that both teams are automatically getting the NBA Finals. Chance are one of those teams, if not both, will likely not make it to the Finals.

30 to 29 is not much of a silver lining if it means losing in the Finals.

Stop worrying about the Bulls, folks. Miami is coming out of the East.

The only draft position that matters is the Spurs' being behind Portland.

Not quite, Portland can still trade with Houston.
