I think the Mavs could win in 4 or 5. But with other intangibles could be stretched to 6 or 7, but still win. The Blazers could also win in 4 or 5 or maybe even 6 or 7.

    imo

the worst scenario it is tbh. blazers been playin their best games these days even the lakers/spurs wouldn't surmount dis team imho. the lads will only quit when they feel bored of it, maybe in the 2nd round or WCF.

    Mavs in 6.

My job depends on them, unfortunately.
i wish so but i just don't see a chance the mavs could beat the blazers this year. the lads are now playing their best games of the year, it'd turn out a misery for any team taking em on first imho.

never underestimate Portland's ability to choke in the first round...The pathetic Rockets broke their first round hex against the Blazers too...Dallas got this

Sounds like alot of people pick the mavs. If they get bounced again in the 1st rd they will cement themselves as the most underachieving franchise in the history of sports
not really at least they won it once imo, in 06 IIRC. the bright side is they play the first two games at home and i believe they can win one. i'd be hardly an upset for me only if they can avoid sweeping tbh, blazers in 5

lads not any more the team 2yrs before, nigs have matured a lot & they're now playing their best games of the season. if the mavs could win both games @ AAC, then i'd see a chance in game 5 and a possible game 7 (just don't see it happenin though)

speaking the ability of choking, no team preponderates the mavs imho

Your boys are gonna be just fine, Rogue...Mavs in 5, maybe 6. 2nd round is a different story though...

EDIT: they're also still incorporating Wallace into the line-up--and although hes played some good ball of late--he still looks inconsistent and out of place at times. The whole team seems discombobulated at times on the offensive end, tbh. Not reliable enough for serious playoff contention imho

I guess the positive thing to think about this is that we are going to lose, might as well lose earlier rather than later. The most painful losses happened in 2006.

Have a little faith in the Mavs. They haven't even played a game yet. I know they have choked in the past but that doesn't matter right now. It's all about now. If they protect homecourt and play like men in Portland, they will win the series.

I thought it was tough being a Mavs fan in the 90s. But what Blazers fans went through from 1993-2003 might be even worse. , how about just 1983-2003.

Not tough at all being a Blazer fan in the 90's. We went to 4 Western Conference Finals and 2 Finals.

Dismissed for years as soft, this season may be Mavs' strongest
    By Jan Hubbard

...Still, the only way the Mavericks can correct the misconception is to win a championship. That's what separates them from those eras of 50 wins by the Lakers and Spurs, who won five and four les, respectively. A first-round victory over Portland will do nothing for Dallas. Nor will success in the conference semifinals and finals, because if the Mavericks were to lose in the championship series, many of the self-styled deep thinkers would tell us it was because they were soft. And the Mavericks know it.

"We're going to go into this thing guns blazing," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "There are a lot of doubters. That's OK. We've never said we could talk our way to a winning run in the playoffs. We know we have something to prove in every game and every series."

...But the Mavericks are confident. They're aware of their reputation. They read about Denver coach George Karl saying he preferred to play the Mavericks rather than the Thunder in the first round. They know NBA scouts say the Blazers are their worst possible matchup. Before Game 1 at home on Sunday, they will read predictions in the local papers and elsewhere that they will lose the series.

Never has a team been so good, but venerated so little.

"Everybody has an opinion," guard Jason Kidd said. "We're a jump-shooting team. You've got to be who you are. Sometimes people look for you to change, but we've been pretty good doing it this way. But we're different this year with Tyson Chandler. He can run, he can catch, he's emotional and he brings energy. He's a center you have to respect because he plays above the rim."

..."Dirk got hit in a playoff series one time, spit a tooth out and continued to play," (Del) Harris said. "That's when I decided to never question his toughness again. I've seen ankle sprains that keep guys out two or three weeks keep him out two or three minutes. He gets rebounds in traffic and he takes it to the basket. He doesn't flinch, he tries to finish and he know they're going to bang him when he puts the ball on the floor. But he attacks the basket anyway."

I didn't include the early 90s, just after 1993. And having every season end in the first round is probably worse than never making the playoffs. At least to me.

Nice article, thanks for the link.

Overall, however, the label of soft is an imprecise criticism that demonstrates a lack of thoughtful analysis on the part of those who use it, including TNT's Chris Webber, who simply doesn't have the credibility to make such a statement.
It's curious that criticism comes from Webber, who was never regarded as a physical player, nor as someone who came to play every night.

"He was a great passer who was a bit inconsistent in his approach to the game," former Mavs assistant and veteran NBA coach Del Harris said in describing Webber. "When he was good, he was really good, but he wasn't any sort of enforcer type."

Indeed a comparison of Nowitzki and Webber reveals that Webber should spend a little more time trying to be insightful rather than parroting criticism four years in the making
Harper is now a Mavericks TV analyst and he is puzzled because he remembers Webber, he says, as "a finesse guy. He wasn't a power guy.

"He was a finesse guy, plain and simple. So for Webber to call somebody soft -- there should be a mirror put in front of him so he can look at it."
    Chris Webber

The AAC has little HCA for the mavs. Teams usually roll in there acting like it's their floor, not to mention all the wanna be socialites that show up to the games and have little interest in cheering

Same with the Cowboys. The only home advantage a team has here in the playoffs is the Rangers. By far the best fans in the DFW area.
