Maybe we can offer Splitter to offload the Bonner contract, as LJ said a long time ago...
Don't be surprised to see Jefferson and Blair packaged in a trade this off-season.

    Just saying.
Agree, the opposing team will want someone who they think is decent to be added to the RJ deal. Jefferson alone will not attract many suitors.

I'm willing to give anyone 10 to 1 odds on any bet that Jefferson won't be here for 3 more years.

People are unaware on the size and length of Blair and Hill's contracts. With their salary value to go up at least 500-600% (when their rookie contracts expire), the Spurs will most likely look to move one or both of them if they don't intend to pay them. (Remember how they just gave Tony a 4 year-50 million dollar extension; he plays PG btw).

This off-season will be the perfect time to package Blair with Jefferson FWIW.
    really?

After you argued up and down with me all summer long about how you thought the Spurs should re-sign Jefferson, no matter how many reality-based facts about RJ's garbage play that I posted about how that was a bad idea, now you want the Spurs to junk Blair to get out from under RJ? I mean, you really went out of your way to argue for his re-singing. Both him and Bonner actually.

I ain't mad at ya, though.

Would I give up Blair to get rid of RJ's horrible horrible devastating contract and lousy play? , I'd trade RJ and Blair for a conditional 2nd rounder, just to get RJ the off this team. I'd also combine Hill with Bonner for a conditional 2nd rounder, just to get the other hero of free agency, the Prince of Plus-Minus off this team.

    BUT

I don't see any team swallowing RJ's poison pill just to get a charismatic, slightly more skilled Jason Maxiell. Maybe in exchange for a different kind of poison pill like Al Harrington, if the Spurs are real lucky.

That being said, it shouldn't have come to this. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE COME TO THIS. The Spurs had a blessing in disguise when RJ opted out because he thought NJ would pay him big bucks instead of wasting money on Outlaw and Petro.

They had also finally gotten out from under Bonner's contract. I had been arguing with people on this forum for years about how terrible Bonner was and how his supposed skill was replacable for cheap. Steve effin' Novak has proven he could do Bonner's job at minimum pay scale, but here Bonner still is. And people really liked him getting 4 years because of his 'corporate knowledge' and how he 'knew the system'. RIDICULOUS.

Back to RJ. RJ's deal was garbage, re-signing him was garbage, his play was pure garbage. And his continued garbage presence was clear as day predictable.

And now that he's declining athletically and already been PAID, he will be even bigger apocalyptic garbage with his fellow trash Matt Bonner.

For the next three seasons. Draining the fun out of this team.

People wanted it, now they're getting it.

I dont think is there anybody to take RJ`s contract. He has 3 years left and 30mln. It is just to much, for player who is playing 2nd year in a row.

Only if it is to division rival and Bonner shoots 70% from downtown against the Spurs in future playoff series.

And finally ppl are seeing that I was right all along. Resigning Jefferson & Bonner to long term contracts was stupid, plain and simple.

I repeatedly questioned Pop's resigning of Bonner and also the over-playing of Bonner in the rotation time and time again (at the expense of Splitter's minutes) yet was chastised and beaten down every time by the popsuckers.

The Bonner contract goes right up there with Jackie Butler and Rasho Nestorvic signing as complete abortions. Pop went from valuing size, defense, rebounding and intelligence to now preferring soft play, three-point shooting and gutlessness. Who is realistically going to trade for Ronald McDonald with a three-point shot??????
Everyone is hot-headed right now. May I know the name of that hot girl in your post? Thanks

No not Bonner actually, just R.J-- Why? Because he was the best option available and I would much rather the Spurs have Jefferson starting at SF instead of Danny Green or Ime Udoka. Fact of the matter is, Jefferson's contract didn't get in the way of resigning Parker (like you said it would) and it also didn't effect the future financial situation of the Spurs with Manu, Tim and Tony all signed to extensions. (They were going to be over the cap regardless of R.J being here or not. Meaning they weren't going to be able to sign any significant free agent anyway last year or next year or the year after. But you, like many others, have a selective confirmation bias on this issue and fail to understand the facts of the financial landscape of the Spurs.

On another note, R.J did improve and was remarkable from 3 point land all year long, but of course guys like you who thought the Spurs were beyond stupid for choosing R.J at SF instead of Udoka, only come out of the bushes when R.J has a poor outing like he did in games 3 and 4; even though he pretty much played better than Parker, Hill, Neal all series. (Even though that's not saying much..tbh)

Fact of the matter is Blair's contract is up in 2 years, and his salary is set to increase 500-600%. That being said, I highly doubt the Spurs would be willing to invest 20-25 million after what transpired late this year behind closed doors. The FO was not happy with some of his off the court decisions, which lead to his demotion from the starting line-up.

All in all, resigning R.J was the right decision, as it gave Tim and the Spurs its best chance to compete for a le this year and at the same time saved the franchise 15-20 million just this past year. Unfortunately, the Spurs may end up coming up short this time around and with the looming lock-out set for next year, it might be best for the Spurs to start rebuilding; which could lead to a packaged deal including R.J and Blair as soon as this summer.

We had a chance to say good-bye and you and instead we'll see 3 more years of this .

This team declines started when Bonner become a rotation player

    sad
Not sure why all the hate for Jefferson and Bonner for last nights game. The reason this team is playing poorly in the playoffs (especially last night) is the play of the guards. Parker, Hill and Ginobili have been horrendous. I have not looked at the replay of the game last night but our guards were pretty much giving the ball to the Grizzlies so they can run back and for easy layups on the other side. If not that, then they were jacking up ill-advised shots late in the shot clock or not even getting a shot attempt during the possession. Plus, they are the primary focal point on offense and our offense has been no comparison to what it was during the regular season.

Do I give Jefferson or Bonner a pass for not playing well last night? No, but then again no one played well. But did they overwhelmingly suck last night..NO. As a matter of fact, Jefferson had some great sequences on defense in the first half where he stole the ball, blocked a shot, or made a rotation on defense that led to turnovers.

Yes, Bonner has difficulties guarding Gasol and Randolph but so does every other player in the NBA. Even though Bonner was only credited with 2 rebounds he did tap out several rebounds to Spurs guards for an extra posession. We knew Bonner would struggle against their massive lineup but our strength is our guards (Parker, Ginobili, Hill and even Neal). If we cant play to our strength then we are in trouble as evident in this series. Freaking Conley is playing better than Parker.

And for those of you that think Splitter had a great game. Well most of his production came in the first half against their Haddadi (their fourth big who had only logged several minutes this series). When Splitter did play against Memphis starters he was a no show as well.

Even if resigning RJ was the right decision last summer, things have now changed. The collapse has begun and the dismantling MUST take place. It's now more important for the Spurs to begin selling off assets and stockpiling young players and draft choices. Things needed to start the roster overhaul. - sort of akin to what OKC has done. That would be the way to go. That means ridding the roster of the bloated contracts of players, who will not be around when the team begins its next rise. Thus, RJ has to go.

lol @ resigning RJ as the right decision

We had RJ for 1 year to realize that he is a poor fit here. That did not change and won't change ever. Still, we have him locked for 3 years/30M and nobody in the NBA wants that lazy soft ass.

You gotta love the guys that can't admit they were wrong.

You seemed to think the Spurs giving Bonner 4 years made good sense here. It was after free agency, but it looks like you were content.

-- Why? Because he was the best option available and I would much rather the Spurs have Jefferson starting at SF instead of Danny Green or Ime Udoka.
I don't know why you're bringing up Udoka, I wanted him off the team the first go round. And when they brought him back this season I was one of the most vocal opponents of such. And I don't care for Green, I would say he's a marginal NBA talent . . . but yes, even Green has shown more hustle and heart than RJ. At 1/9th the price. That doesn't reflect well on RJ. Green's a young player who was a second round pick, sometimes young players like that can be useful.

It's not like the Spurs are playing a team right now who has been giving 20 minutes a game starting on a young-ish SF who was a 2nd round pick on the minimum scale or anything. He's not winning games for them, but he's not killing them either.

No, it did not get in the way of signing Parker like I said it could. Could being the key word. I expressed doubts. Just as I was pessimistic about Splitter getting signed based on prior events. It's reasonable to view things through that prism when the Spurs dumped Scola to get rid of 1 year of 2.5 million. I ALSO posted that even if RJ didn't affect Parker, the next logical player to be affected would be Hill. Even though Hill is better than RJ, I wouldn't mind junking him to get rid of RJ either. The way RJ and Bonner's contracts affect the books even has posters now realizing that it won't be easy to re-sign players like Hill or Blair.

I've given RJ credit whenever he's warranted it. In fact, after game two I posted that both he and Bonner had their best consecutive playoff games as Spurs. But if you want to imagine that I never posted about things and only 'come out of the bushes' when he has a poor outing, go right ahead. It's not true, but it is what it is. I even made a point to not bash him when he had bad performances early, which is the opposite of the gloaters when he had good performances early.

Again with the Udoka lies. Udoka wasn't an NBA caliber player, I posted so, but keep on believing the opposite if you want.

I'm fine with getting rid of Blair. Hopefully it's enough to get rid of RJ, though I doubt it. If the only reason you're including RJ with hypothetical Blair trades is to match salaries, and not because you're disappointed with RJ but think he's a great piece that you're reluctant to give up, then I don't know what to say.

I hope and pray RJ is off this team next year, or whenever the Spurs do play next after the lockout. I'd sacrifice Blair. I'd throw in Hill. Just get him off this roster. I don't know who would trade for RJ though. Isn't his 4th year a fully guaranteed player option? That's madness. Maybe the Spurs can get lucky though.

All in all, I don't see how RJ could have been the right decision, hindsight or foresight. He didn't opt out just to save the Spurs money, he thought he was getting a bigger deal from NJ. The Spurs could have washed their hands with him. And I don't see how RJ with the way he's played has helped the Spurs improve their chances. Yes, he's been a good % shooter from 3. Is that all there was to it? If so he wasn't even a good "Three & D" player, because the D wasn't there.

I hope he shuts me up tomorrow, but I wouldn't even be shut up. I would give him credit. It probably wouldn't make up for that performance last night though. If the Spurs win tomorrow, it will probably be due to the reasons the Spurs have won in the recent past: carried by the big three with some contributions by Hill. Maybe Splitter is allowed back as well and he helps. If RJ and Bonner can stay out of the way and keep their minutes low, good. If they can help, better.

I'd feel a lot more confident in being able to get rid of RJ and Bonner if the league wasn't heading for a lockout this summer.

Those contracts are going to look a lot worse after the new CBA. There are a LOT of dumb GMs in this league that probably would have rolled the dice on and Bonner but it's gonna look pretty grim after this summer rolls around.

Sadly we signed Bonner for the same amount of money that Houston signed Scola. I don't know if there was a buy out, but look at how well Scola did with Yao and now without Yao.

First of all, I agree R.J. did play bad on offense, but he did play solid D and was going for rebounds and the ball itself.

Secondly, look at the big three's numbers, who are supposed to lead the team. You can't blame only the 4th option for screwing up a basketball game. Yes, I expect a lot more from him as well, 0 pts, come on..

    Tim Duncan 3/7, 6 pts
Tony Parker 23 pts but 7 turnovers, he was pissing me off, he just doesn't pass the ball in transition
Manu Ginobili 5/13 from the field

There are absolutely no plays ran for R.J. and Parker for some reason won't pass it to him for easy buckets, and he obviously doesn't want to force shots, he took only 4 in the game.

Maybe he just isn't a good fit for this team, although he could have been, like he showed us in start of the season, when he was scoring 15-20 points without a problem. He was getting dunks, alley-oops and wide open threes. Do you see that lately? Think his confidence faded away, and I blame Pop and Parker for that, because he needs to pass the ball as well, not only penetrate. If a player gets some easy shots, he gets more confident and starts dropping jumpshots, gets more aggressive and good things happen.

Remember when people said that a minimum salary 2nd round/d-leaguer was soooooo much worse than Jefferson?

How about Sam Young, a minimum scale 2nd rounder, outperforming Jefferson by leaps and bounds?

    Minimum scale 2nd rounder/d-leaguer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jefferson
