For many fans, there's only one explanation for why LeBron James loses a basketball game.
This Heat season will likely end in failure, which means death by choking. I say that because championships are elusive and media labels are predictable. Though I would favor Miami as a le pick, “the field” is a more imposing team than Pat Riley could ever build. excuses here
Jump forward to Heat elimination and see LeBron’s shoulders drooping to the level Dwyane Wade’s head hangs. Miami trudges off the court, off into the vagaries of lockout oblivion. at least he get this part right![]()
They leave behind a blue Twitter cloud of snickering scorn. Pundits rush to agreement: The opposing team’s best player is what LeBron isn’t and what LeBron should have been. Sportswriters light a fire beneath Erik Spoelstra’s seat before the coach even slumps into a post-series presser. It’s a disaster, much to the delight of the chattering classes.
And LeBron James will be the “choker.” That narrative already exists -- last year’s exit gave us that framing device. The thinking went: James either choked because he quit or quit because he choked. HE QUIT AND HE CHOKED
“Choking” means to shrink from the moment, to be crushed by its pressure. It’s quite at odds with “quitting,” a sin of apathy. Quitters and chokers might be different creatures, but the pejorative terms aren’t really about who does what or why they do it: The labels seek to impugn the masculinity of losing players, as though the NBA is some elaborate test of manhood. you can be both things see best as example lebron in cleveland
Schadenfreude amplifies such criticism. If more observers wish to see a player fail, then more of them will seek to emasculate him for those failings. A spiteful fan can take pride in being manlier than a large, famous athlete on the TV -- at least mentally. Sure, LeBron is better than you at sport … but he lost due to a feminine character flaw! This is a funny way to retroactively judge why a ball went through a hoop, but it is a persuasive formula.![]()
A le victory protects an athlete. Don’t have a ring? Likability is the next best defense. If fans identify with a star, they’re less inclined to impugn him. Steve Nash has eluded the cruel “choker” tag, despite many playoff exits. My assumption is that sportswriters and fans are more likely to empathize with someone who looks like them. It helps that Nash plays a beautiful game and exudes charisma. So, it makes sense that much of the media narrative surrounding him revolves around how the Suns have failed him -- not the other way around. except not unlike nash lebron have all physical necessary talents to succeeding and lose because mentally he is quitter
LeBron James does not look like most media members, or a majority of the fans. He irritated significant numbers with the tone-deaf Decision and what many felt was a power play. The angry masses were further enraged by the local celebration of Miami’s free-agent haul. Should LeBron fail, should his team fail, mockery will write history.
“They brought this on themselves,” is a common refrain, used to justified our screeching derision of tears and “softness.” Perhaps James and his team deserve future embarrassment, but let’s not confuse a desire to shame with honest analysis. If the Heat lose, it will probably happen due to flawed strategy, a lack of execution and a little bad luck. no lebron will choke it what he do
But in the imagination of many, LeBron will have “choked” because the story people want often overrides reality. To quote Maya Angelou, “people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” what an article is this one

====================
guess it turns out he not choker after all he just black
maybe he can learn from black man tim duncan
oh that is right, spurs already done sweeping james in the finals
after james beat the spurs in the only 2 games they played in the regular season to boot![]()

Peyton Manning was called a choker before he won a SB le.....and even after the fact the Chargers still have his number.
I disagree it's because he's black and he's gay....and the receding hairline doesn't help...but being black and gay is probably the worse thing a person can be...because you get discriminated against by the majority for being black and ostracized by the black community because your gay...dude just can't win for losing...and then he has to visit the hair club for men society...it's a triple whammy...lol
His hairline is about the same as Kobe's.
Let me guess...
Jemele Hill or Jason Whitlock?
(going to look now....)
Ah rats, some other person. I'm sure one of those two are his mentors.
LOL... Has this guy ever heard what people call Dirk? Race has absolutely nothing to do with being a choker or being called one.
tbh Peyton was a choker even winning the SB. if any other QB not named Rex Grossman was the QB for Chicago, they'd have destroyed the Colts.
crucify em mono
Can't go against you there man.....the only good game he had during that run was against NE, and that was only really a good half.
I don't remember Steve Nash a.) being on the cover of Sports Illustrated when he was a junior in high school, b.) having his high-school games broadcast on national television, c.) being compared to Michael Jordan before he ever played an NBA game or d.) being the first overall pick in the draft.
Other than that, solid analogy there, Ethan.
Do you think they would have won with Kurt Warner? I read that Lovie was considering signing Kurt, but elected not to. Man Rex Grossman was . I was going for the Bears since I wasn't a fan of either team, but went with them because they're TD's favorite team. Plus they won with defense so that is always a plus in my book.
I've also seen a fair number of Steve Nash's career playoff games up close (35 of his 118 career playoff games have been against the Spurs) and I don't recall a time when he obviously came up short in late game situations over the course of a series or even a few games. If anything, Nash has been the guy keeping his teams -- particularly his Suns teams -- afloat long enough in 4th quarters to give them a chance to win games and series.
Didn't Dirk just redeem being a Choker? He is as white as one can be. Horse article
This is ing stupid. Anyone who watched the Suns could see the Nash never quit, never gave up, and always was in attack mode and was clutch AS . It has nothing to do with being black or white. If Steve Nash quit on his team and choked as badly as LeBron and then tried to blame it on everyone else, we'd all be saying " that guy" too.
this article is , and its written by a white guy who wouldn't know the first ing thing about being black. This guy has a chip on his shoulder for his LeBron love... he is always butt hurt about people hating LeBron.
Right now the best player in the NBA is a white boy from Germany. Hehehehehe!!!!!!!!
Kobe 32 going on 33 in a couple of months. LeBrick is 26.
Plus, Kobe's isn't as noticeable as his. LeBron's looks turrible.
