I haven't watched a non-Spurs game in years
I may be done with the NBA. I love my Spurs, and I'll still watch them. But the opening minutes of this Lakers-Hornets game may be the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I just can't support it anymore. Some of the totally egregious plays in just the first few minutes of play:
1. Bynum elbowed Belinelli to the head and drew blood. Belinelli had to go to the sideline to stop the bleeding. No call on Bynum. Lakers score 2 points on the play. I wonder how the refs think the blood got there? Bynum is flailing his elbows constantly, and he already cut CP3 in the last game.
2. Gasol turns his back to the basket and starts backing down. He takes 4 shuffle steps without putting the ball on the ground. No travelling call. Lakers score 2 points. It's a lot easier to back your opponent down when you don't have to worry about putting that damned ball on the floor.
3. Ariza drives to the paint. Gasol jumps in front of him, doesn't get squared up, still moving his feet (backwards), and takes the contact on the side of his body. It wasn't even close. Charging call on Ariza. Totally inconsistent with charge calls elsewhere.
4. Kobe goes up for a jumper, and they call an absolute phantom call on Ariza. Ariza has to leave the game with 2 early fouls. Not coincidentally, I think, Ariza had 10 points in 6 minutes of play and hadn't missed a shot. Kobe is now being defended by the 6-3 Willie Green, instead of the 6-7 Ariza.
5. Willie Green drives it to the paint. Gasol leaps in front of him, and is in the air when he makes contact. Green makes the shot, and thinks he has an and-1. But nooo.... it's another charge on against the Hornets. And this one is even worse than the one against Ariza.
I know the game is hard to call. But there's no way that an NBA level officiating crew can miss that many obvious calls, that badly, in such a short period of time. I still don't want to call it a conspiracy. But the best case scenario is that they are biased in favor of the Lakers as a result of all the hype they get. Either that, or I have to believe that they are absolutely incompetent - on one end of the floor.
I'm not going to abandon the Spurs. But in a way I feel like a chump, even for that. This isn't a level planing field. It just isn't. I sure as don't have any soft spot for the Hornets, but they've been screwed over solidly, and the game is still young. The Spurs lost last night because they got outplayed. But why would I expect any better than what I see tonight, if they did get matched up against the Lakers, or Heat, or Bulls?
One thing I do know. If it's not the Spurs playing, I'll turn on Deadliest Catch or something. And if I ever want to see this kind of bull , I'll go right to the source and turn on the WWF.

It's more about the product than the game.
Which is why NCAA ball is so much better than the NBA.
I feel sorry for Hornets fans. CP3 is ready to bolt as the team plays in the NBA orphanage hoping for a new home. They don't have a chance to beat the Lakers with the officiating that's being allowed and they were the team I was hoping we were going to be playing in the first round before Mephis tanked, but I hope they at least chip away at LA's confidence if nothing else.
I see what you mean about the officiating being one-sided.
I rarely watch any NBA other than the Spurs. So it's possible that after tomorrow the next NBA game I watch will be in November.
I've almost exclusively been watching Spurs games out of all NBA games for years, as some of you might already be able to guess. NBA is LAME.
please, Laker fan, justify these calls.
i dont get it. the lakers had a bad ft' differential in this series and last years playoffs. okc had 40 more ft's in games 3 and 4 combined. what is this myth that the lakers get overwhelming ref advantage.
The Lakers out-rebounded them by 17 and shot 49%...great ing conspiracy![]()

In the final analysis, the Lakers won because they outplayed the Hornets.
Tbh Stern tried to help the spurs in game 1 by giving them 47 ft as opposed to only 33 for the grizzlies, such classy rigging![]()
lol meltdown
You obviously don't know how stats work. If a guy gets called for an over the back, even though he got the ball off a rebound, he doesn't get credited with the rebound. If a guy gets a charging call against him that's a turn over. If a guy can walk to the rim without dribbling, his shooting percentage should be higher.
It's not that the Lakers aren't a better team, is that a lesser team cannot rise up and defeat them due to biased officiating. The lesser team would have to play 1.5x better than the Lakers just to have a chance with the way the calls go. It's been true for ages even way back in MJs days. History revisionists forget that and look at MJ as the greatest off all time, and ignore that anyone who got near him got a foul called on them.
The league does not want the Lakers out in the 1st round. They want a big Finals with Lebron and Kobe. They've been trying to get that for years with all the shuffling but Lebron couldn't get there, and when he could Kobe couldn't. Now they have Lebron with Wade and it's the perfect state for Kobe/James matchup where Nike ejactulates all over the Staples center and bandwagon fans everywhere get together and sing kumbaya.
It becomes more obvious in the playoffs because that's really the only time it matters. Everyone in the game and announcing knows the officals are quirky with calls on the road vs calls at home. That should be enough to merit consideration that what the OP is saying holds weight.
Hold still, let me catch your tears.
Actually I laugh at it. It's like WWE.
If what you're saying is true that it would basically mean, that every le. That's EVERY le is rigged. While I think that the NBA's refs have bias and may slant a result, I don't think that the outcome is rigged. But it sucks when a team is hosed constantly to the point that a comeback is nigh impossible unless the benefactor chucks all their free throws and makes bad decisions. If they make some and capitalize on the calls...then it's a blowout.
Then stop getting so worked up over it, tbh.
Don't worry brah, you won't be missed
we always have a handful of GNSF's that start one of these each season. Enjoy being another statistic![]()
Last time I watched a non Spurs game must have been around 1999 or 2000.
I vowed the same thing after Game 7 of the Finals last year but signing Boozer reeled me back in. If my team wasn't a contender I would laugh at the sport and it's fans
NBA is easily the easiest sport to manipulate
I didn't start the thread, troll.
It's funny how someone thinks they can detect "worked up" by reading a post.
