    That's Real Madrid's response.

They're obviously bias, but unless another angle disputes their claim, they seemed to be right.

Still a pretty dangerous tackle, and would've gone with a yellow. However if Alves did simulate his injury (which seems likely considering how quickly he came back) then he should be suspended for deceiving the referee.

    Busquets was hilarious as well.

There was definitely diving going on, but if you're stupid enough to attack es up you're taking a chance on getting red carded. From the replays it looked like he was definitely trying to e the leg whether he succeeded or not, and in that case it's a judgement call for the ref. I could see a yellow and I could also see a red and it was up to the ref to decide which one. Have to take responsibility for your tackles when it's pretty obvious you were trying to intentionally go es into the leg.

Also, Madrid media is already photoshopping pictures so anything they produce has to be considered tainted and bull .

It's impossible to make the turn Alves made in the air if you don't get hit, Madrid press is famous for photoshopping pics and altering images so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same here, besides there're times where the tv image doesn't show what it really happens. Look at this video at around the 8:50 minute mark:

The video doesn't show that the Argie player touched the Portuguese but after the match Rojo (the Argie defender) said that he did touch him.

Either way, let's say that Pepe didn't touch Alves, the rule says "to hit or try to hit", it's the intention that matters, so Pepe should have been sent off either way.

Come on man, some of you guys are being such homers, DAF you are topping the list in this thread... please. It very well was possible for Alves to turn like that. Why? Because his other foot was still on the ground at the point of "contact". Very easy to act that out, just fling your right leg out/back and dive with a turn.

His left foot was still on the ground. He can go any direction at that point.

Yeah, even if he did make contact, there's no way it could've been forceful enough to spin him around, especially since he was already pulling his leg back before Pepe's cleats even arrived.

Either way, let's say that Pepe didn't touch Alves, the rule says "to hit or try to hit", it's the intention that matters, so Pepe should have been sent off either way.
Well if we say Pepe didn't touch Alves, Alves should be suspended no?

    No, just a yellow card.

I'm not beign a homer. That's as easy as red cards get, even if Alves wasn't hit.

And if Alves can turn like that without getting hit I'm impressed with his athletic ability, I've played semi-professional football and I can't do that nor bealive how anyone could.

P/S: If he indeed didn't get hit, he pulled the greatest flop of all-time, tbh.

Eduardo for Arsenal was banned for two matches by UEFA for the same offence in Champions League in 2009. Adriano had the same punishment some years back.

I don't remember those cases, in a game when a guy flops he usually gets a yellow (although "some times" should be a more accurate adverb of frecuency 'cause players rarely get booked for that) so I don't see how they could be penalized in another way after the games. Either way I don't think there's enough evidence to say that was a flop and give Alves that kind of penalty.

Those cases of suspensions are usually where you deceive a referee to get a penalty or a someone sent off.

But yes, there has to be clear evidence that it was deception, which would be hard to prove.

I was going to say the red was bull yesterday but reactions here swayed me into thinking maybe I was wrong. Turns out I was right.

Oh well, sucks for Madrid. I guess I'll be rooting for Chicharito to wax that Barca ass.

You must not be much of an athlete. I can do that pretty easily. And yes, we all already know that Alves is pretty damn athletic.

CROFL @ that video of Pepe...what a bag. Big tough guy kicking, and then the victim's teammates barely do anything to help him out while Pepe continues to hit him. All of those guys are massive vaginas, and they continue giving the sport a bad name.

Soccer players should never fight on TV, because they are an embarrassment to men. Ron Artest on the other hand at least does it the right way.

By attacking small, dorky white guys who are 1/2 his size? Yep, takes a real man to get punked by Ben Wallace then attack small people who obviously have no background in combat.

Good point, but at least he's running into a crowd of multiple people, throwing punches, rather than attacking via girly kicks.
