Dareus!
It matters but not THAT much. No offensive coordinator in the world is going to make Chad Henne a good quarterback. The Browns have gone through one coach after another since 1999 and they still suck.
Coaching matters a lot. Coaches have at least some input into who they draft, sign, trade etc. Coaches who decide to go with two unproven cornerbacks and end up with one of the worst defenses in history has everything to do with with inept coaches. a head coach is the supposed leader of the team, and his at ude in games will rub off on his team, if he is soft, his team will not finish games etc...
I love the fact that Fairley is a dirty, nasty sum . Frees up Schwartz to run a uva lot of different fronts. Thanks SF, HOU, TEN, MIN. Originally thought Fairley was a lock to the Texans when he was still on the board.
But what's up with the stupid ing specs that made him look like the Nutty Professor or the fat kid from 8 Mile? .
Bear with because this is usually the best part of my season: Gorilla tape Stafford's entire body, draft Carter or Foster, make a run at Joseph or throw every penny you have at Nnamdi (FU, it's my dream), draft a bruiser RB late...
That's not a bad team and at the very least, will definitely inflict some damage on opposing offenses.
Dump VY for an even tier QB, eh ans?
Who the is James Carpenter?
Did Philly really draft a 26/27 yo G?
Thought the Pats would move up for Quinn when they said the Lions were tinkering with trading out. I assume that was when Mayhew thought the Vikes were taking Fairley, which would have actually made much more sense for the Vikes. Quinn to the Pats would have been scary.
And you, Minny. Ponder is karma for that stupid ing horn.
Luck, Barkley and Brantley probably declaring next year and Christian Ponder, already with shoulder/elbow/arm strength issues, goes 12. o, LA.
St Lou stays cool....sits tight and STEALS Robert Quinn at #14
ing draft day robbery.
Maybe the best pass rusher in the draft. He can also stand up...line up anywhere along the front seven.
We still need help at OLB(hoping for Bruce Carter at #47) and in the secondary at safety(i still like Ahmad Black in the middle rds) but.....
Chris Long(8.5 sacks)
James Hall(10.5 sacks)
Fred Robbins(6 sacks)
Robert Quinn
In Spags pressure system....
with Laurinaitis thumping the run up the middle....
BEASTLY.
Numerous reports yesterday reported it's a selection their are trading to Philly for Kolb once able. We'll see. Pretty risky. No binding agreement can be made in any trade, as far as I know.
I still can't believe what Jacksonville and Tennessee did. I can understand the ans needing to draft a QB, but with the 8th pick? Jake Locker is a career backup, so they should have fun with that. Same thing with the Jags, trading up to spend a first rounder on a backup. Still pissed about that J.J. Watts pick, but at least they didn't go QB too
Wonder where this ginger ends up going. Cincinnati apparently tried to trade up to 32 to get him.
I'm cool with the pick but he did look like a ing re . I'm not overly excited though either. To me, too many holes to address to go with depth with a first rounder. Although I will say that there really wasn't any player that would have got me all that excited. Amukamara was the safe pick to take. Glad they didn't take a tackle. I probably would have preferred Quinn or Bowers, but seeing how far Bowers has fallen, I'm guessing a lot of these teams know a lot more than we do about his injuries and health.
To me, by taking BPA in the first round, you can't do that in the second round. You have to address need. Either Carter at OLB or one of the many corners that should be available, Williams, Harris, Dowling, House. I think Carter should be the target if he's available there at #44 for the Lions.
I'm not convinced Locker is destined to be a career back-up. Gruden made a great point last night regarding his completion percentage. Who the did he have to throw to? You watch a lot of the film on Locker, and he's intentionally throwing the ball away because that's the best play to make. That doesn't help his completion percentage obviously. And as far as intangibles go, there's not much not to like about him. The right grooming and with better pieces around him, I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be a very good QB in the NFL.
I agree with your BPA, need philosophy. But I have a feeling they're going to take a RB in the 2nd. Board is falling that way and Mayhew has been consistent with the BPA mantra.
They need a OLB more so than a CB. I don't believe they have a viable starter on either side on the roster.
Love Carter, probably going to be Leshoure.
I will be pretty upset if they take LeShoure in the second round.
I do agree that the Lions need a linebacker more than a CB. But if Carter isn't there, I'm not really that high on the available 4-3 OLBs left after him and Ayers, while there are several CBs that I would like at that spot. Plus, it's all but an absolute certainty they go after an OLB in free agency.
I also think it's easier to plug in a mediocre to poor linebacker than it is a mediocre to poor corner in the line up. A mediocre to poor linebacker might give up a 20 yard run or pass. A mediocre to poor corner gives up TDs.
The buzz is that the Patriots take Sheard. My guess is they'll trade down again to midround.
Holy . I really hope Mono is not watching this draft right now, and instead, is enjoying a peaceful relaxing day.
We now have Butler, Dowling and McCourty for CBs in the secondary, along with Chung and Meriweather at S. And still, no pass rush.
So which team is going to trade for Palmer?
What's the deal with Bodden? Was his injury that bad that you're already counting him out?
Forgot about him since he was out all year. I guess Belichick is just going to play a 3-2-6 defense base package.
Nice pick by Cleveland. They've got an A in my book so far.
I hate Belichick. What a fraud.
So when are the Cowboys gonna get someone in the secondary?
Still, I can't wait to see what Rb Ry
n does with these athletic linebackers
