The Spurs and Mavs aren't exactly in the same class. Let's be honest. The Spurs are in old and past their primes. Duncan hit the wall last year. Ginobili is pushing 33-34. Dice is ancient. The Mavs choke was more epic because those MFs were in their primes and definitely the favorites to win it all after dominating the regular season. The Spurs had question marks with their late season collapse.
