My understanding is that Duncan can retire and the Spurs organization can choose to pay him his salary even if he does choose to retire. He only forgoes his salary if he files retirement with the league. I'm pretty sure the Pacers did this the year after Reggie Miller retired, granted it was something like $8 million, not $20 million.

As for Kobe being on top of his game, that's horse . He's definitely on his decline. And the difference between him and Duncan is that Duncan only has one year left on his contract, and Kobe has three years and $82+ million left on his. Doubt he'll be on "top of his game" in 3 years and he'll be making considerably more than Duncan will be next season.

If Duncan is a class act he will retire without any pay. Time for San Antonio to look to the future and Duncan shouldn't waste 21 million of their salary cap.

lol son my red headed, step child, bas of a team can't even make it past the second round. I have no reason to hate the Spurs, I'm just speaking the truth and the truth is that no one counts the 1999 season other than Spurs fans. it was a bull year that no one counts.
I bet it would of counted for any other team but ths Spurs, son.

true. it was just like how Peja held the Hornets hostage with his ridiculous contract, but clearly Duncan's is worse. even Peja is more valuable than Duncan at this point in their careers.

that is what he is owed next year ... $21,300,000

now of course this is if the NBA even has a season next year, only a fool would retire before getting that final payday!

lolz sons cheers! here's to watching Timmy D struggle to put up 10 and 6 next season!

by the way, at the same age ... Karl Malone was dropping 27 and 10
And Tim Duncan was winning les at 22.

    God bless son.

Kobe is not at the peak of his prime ....no shame in admitting that. But he still got enough to bury, Paul (check), dirk (soon), durant (next) and the either (Pierce, Wade or Rose).

And after that 7th game of this years finals ...he will look at his "work", see that it was good and will rest. And allow these lessor stars to scratch their first ring ...

How many rings does Malone have? Right. Well he had more desire to play for something since he didn't have it. Timmy just doesn't seem as focused the last few years; he's content with his career.

which shows Tim's lack of character and selfishness. its either one of two things Spurs fans, you can't have your cake and eat it too sons. either admit that the man has no respect for the type of money that he makes because otherwise he would be playing better or admit that he simply just doesn't have what it takes to play NBA basketball as a starter anymore. personally I think he just doesn't have it anymore. sure he is still a solid backup bench option, but over the last few years he has been nothing more than a glorified Greg Ostertag.

It's not Tim's call. I would suit up for Tim's pay and wouldn't say about not being a starter.

Regardless, David West would be sent packing if Tim showed up in New Orleans with a suitcase in his hand.

    David West? LMAO you're delusional

son this isn't 2003 or 2005 you know? ... Duncan hasn't been a legit offensive threat in 3 or 4 years.

Even if West was a better player and was better for the team, you should realize after all this time on this forum that Pop goes with vets (and "corporate knowledge") over talent, even when he shouldn't. So you are wrong in whatever context you choose to use that argument.
