Amateur footage shows the bloodstained interior of Osama bin Laden's compound following his death at the hands of US special forces.

ABC footage at the UK paper the Telegraph, showing a lot of blood, but no bodies.

Apparently, this was strictly a kill mission and not a capture mission -

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. special forces team that hunted down Osama bin Laden was under orders to kill the al Qaeda mastermind, not capture him, a U.S. national security official told Reuters.

"This was a kill operation," the official said, making clear there was no desire to try to capture bin Laden alive in Pakistan. (Reporting by Mark Hosenball, writing by Matt Spetalnick)
It's crazy to think that Obama was at the White House Correspondent's Dinner taking part in the festivities, knowing he had just given an order to kill the world's most notorious terrorist.

Thereby putting the lie to McCain's election charge that Obama "telegraphs his punches".

A poster in The Club mentioned how the idea of a unilateral strike in Pakistan was one that Obama was criticized for during the election -

    Presidential candidates debate Pakistan
McCain, Clinton criticize Obama for threatening to order attacks

WASHINGTON — While recent campaign talking points seem focused on the nation’s flailing economy and its foreign wars, concerns over Pakistan remain an important, though somewhat less heralded, part of that dialogue.
    . . . .
But that may have changed over the past week, as political opponents, both Republican and Democrat, have taken Sen. Barack Obama to task over his policy views toward Islamabad.

At Tuesday night’s MSNBC debate in Cleveland, Sen. Hillary Clinton criticized her opponent’s foreign policy experience, saying, “Last summer, he basically threatened to bomb Pakistan, which I don’t think was a particularly wise position to take.”

And speaking at his Wisconsin primary victory party last week, Sen. John McCain also brought up Obama's earlier statements on Pakistan. "Will we risk the confused leadership of an inexperienced candidate who once suggested bombing our ally, Pakistan?" asked the Arizona senator.

Even after the Wisconsin speech, McCain reiterated his criticism.

The next day, he said, “You make plans and you work with the other country that is your ally and friend, which Pakistan is.”

“You don’t broadcast and say that you’re going to bomb a country without their permission.”

Both Clinton and McCain were making hay of a speech given by Obama in August, when he said he would consider unilateral bombings of al-Qaida camps in Pakistan, with or without consent from Islamabad.

"Let me make this clear: There are terrorists holed up in those mountains, that murdered 3,000 Americans," said Obama during the counterterrorism address.
"If we have actionable intelligence about high-valued terrorist targets and if President Musharraf will not act, we will."

After letting this soak in I must say it just keeps feeling better that OBL is sleepin' with the fishes

From what I've read and heard so far, the CIA, JSOC, and the Obama team handled this beautifully. I hate giving praise to Obama, but credit where due.

The only thing about the operation I wonder about is how those choppers got in without lighting up Paki air defense radars. Believe I read that a Chinook and a couple Blackhawks were involved. I suppose you could keep the BHs low enough but a Chinook?

To SEAL team six. Those are some bad MFers.

Don't we pay Pakistan handsomely to use their air space for the Afghan mission? I'm pretty sure we do.

Within a week, Obama manages to kill birtherism, completely humiliate Donald Trump, and kill the world's most wanted terrorist.

He's probably a lock to win reelection now.

Perfect timing, I'd have to say.

    A man is killed.

And the politicians will say "behold the bad guy, dead by our righteous hands." And the good hearted people will rejoice and sleep in their beds and know justice exists in this world. And the few will lord over the many. And the wars will continue. And bombs will still fall. And people will still die. And one day a McDonalds will stand where once a missile struck like lightning. And an orphan will super-size your meal for an extra dinar.

He's still actually a step ahead of you, bud. They allowed birtherism to fester so that it took over the airwaves, pre-occupied the media with stupid while the grown-man sports were going on elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Donald was in on the birther act, he played his part perfectly.

I've believed all along that our military, if ALLOWED to gather the correct intel, could find OBL and take that out with extreme prejudice. Sure, we had to pay out for it, but that's how you play the game and I'm glad Pakistan let our boys do their job.

As for "perfect timing," please. The confirmation just happened, not like he waited a year to bring out the body. We had tons of money in 2001 to pay out, have always known OBL was in Pakistan, but Bush wanted Afghanistan/Iraq for his election because "you don't change horses midstream." Obama said he'd find that OBL (not even a campaign promise, just a man-to-man promise), now that dead. Let's roll.
