Amazingly, Oden's value is still pretty high. We're not getting him.
Probably not when your body is 35-40 yrs old..I dont care what his BC says, this guy has a body of an old man...
Amazingly, Oden's value is still pretty high. We're not getting him.
Dude is injury prone and has a ty work ethic. Bad idea all around. You really want an Oden/Bonner frontline? Because you know Pop would do it. Seriously. Think about it.
Offer him the full MLE and see if POR matches. It's a gamble, but at least the FO did try something.
that. I hear all the talk in Portland about Oden. Apparently the thing that kept him from playing this year was less about the injury itself and more about his effort rehabbing it. Don't need someone like that on the Spurs. TLongII might sport the homer glasses here in Porkland, but I don't. Oden is not worth the MLE any more that Matt Bonner was worth the extension or the playing time.
Id risk trying him.
But just because portland didn't pick up his option, doesn't mean they won't match any offers for him. I think they want to wait and see what the market is for him out there and then choose to match it or not.
I'm glad you're not a GM. Would I really want a frontline of Oden/Bonner? Uh, YEAH, much better than trotting Blair/Bonner out there. With Oden, who ing cares if Bonner is out there. Oden is a defensive beast. He would take the DPOY from Dwight for years to come if he was ever healthy.
We're not going anywhere with this team unless we take some risks. Oden is once in a long time type player, and his value is slightly lower than what it should be. If the Spurs have ANY chance to get him, they need to jump on it. If he continues to be injured, then we probably don't win les and we're gonna be in the same boat anyway. But if he's healthy, that instantly catapults the Spurs to a great defensive team.
Well Said. You have to take risks sometimes.Wow could you imagine a front court rotation of Oden, Splitter, and Duncan with Blair off the bench? SICK. We would probably need Duncan to renegotiate his contract in order to throw money at Oden.
And unfortunately that won't happen...but you can't really ask anyone to just leave a guaranteed 21 million on the table especially nowadays. If Duncan resigned for a couple season at 10 million, that would be sweet.
I wonder if tim would take a 3 year 30 million type contract.
Assuming he could stay healthy, it could be a good acquisition, I'll give you that. But if I was a GM I wouldn't risk taking on a player who's had major surgery on both knees in a 3 year span, and who's work ethic is substandard. SA is already stuck with two contracts for players who don't produce. Take on Oden and his knees continue to out, add another contract for another player who isn't producing.
Cho stopped short of guaranteeing the Blazers would extend a qualifying offer to Greg Oden, but labeled the one-time franchise center ”a priority in the offseason.”
"As long as he’s working hard and his rehab is going well, I’m pretty sure we’ll give him a qualifying offer,” Cho said
“I think he’ll be back,” Cho said. “He’s working hard. His surgeon says that the microfracture’s healing well. That’s all I can go by — what the doctors say and how hard he’s working. I think he’ll be back and playing. A lot of it is up to him and how hard he works. We’ll go from there.”
“Greg said he wants to be here,” Cho said. “He’s looking forward to playing here and playing next to (LaMarcus Aldridge). I think if you put him next to LA and Gerald Wallace, we’d have one of the best frontlines in the league.”

I'd take Oden, he can't be nearly as bad as Duncan is now....
I don't think Portland let him go but if possible it will be good for us having Oden.
It's a gamble but if it goes well, we will be a contender again.
Why is Oden loved so much? He hasn't proven to be capable of standing on his feet for a few games in a row. He's never going to be a 30 minute a game guy. I'd take a chance on him for the LLE but no way he gets signed on the cheap.
To say Oden > Duncan is laughable and you should leave this forum NOW.
Buy low and sell high. Oden is pretty low right now and he does appear to be the type of player the Spurs need.
But a couple of negatives. First, young bigs (not named Duncan) don't seem to thrive under Pop's regime.
Second, the Blazers seem to question Oden's rehab work ethic.
If they can get him, then get him. Even if he is hurt all season again he still has trade value do to age. Not like he is Darko. Atleast Oden has show he can play. Well a few games here and there.
Nothing to see here..Trailblazers are gonna probably pay the highest for this guy and the spurs offer will be the lowest.
I think Oden, if healthy and motivated, would solve a lot of the Spurs' concerns, but it is an "all-in" kind of move. Plus, it would necessitate Duncan evolving into the stretch 4 role more and maintaining his health and maximizing his productivity. It could be great, but would all greatly rely on health and the effectiveness of both Duncan and Oden.
Ultimately, if it does not completely drain your roster, you accept the risk on this one.
we at least have a chance since his favorite player was Robinson. like everyone has said we are at the point where we need to take a risk. a pickup like dalembert or Hawes wont do much for us.
According to @SpearsNBAYahoo, #Blazers tell Oden's team that they will tender 1 yr, $8.8 mil qualifying offer; making him a restricted FA.

^^ They've been saying that for months, and yet he still has no QO. It's or get off the pot time tomorrow.
Come to spurs and play with Duncan, he'll learn to how to play games well from TD
http://www.foxsportsohio.com/01/11/1...87&feedID=3725Some teams are rumored to have worked out Oden already, including Cleveland, Atlanta and Memphis. But the teams, nor those close to Oden, will confirm those reports.
Others reportedly with a strong interest in Oden include Milwaukee, Chicago, Golden State and San Antonio.
