Look at the 1997 Western Conference. It only had four teams that won 50 games.

One team was the Lakers with Kobe in his rookie year and Shaq in his first season with LA. Not really a contender given how many new faces that team had.

The other team was the Sonics who were never that good to begin with.

The one team capable of putting up a fight with Utah was Houston, and they only lost to Utah because of the ass ramming Stockton gave their scrub ass point guard Matt Maloney. Malone played like in the 1997 playoffs.

If they late 90s Jazz lost to any other team in the finals, they'd be known as one of the weakest teams to ever make the finals.

late 90s Rodman at age 35 and 36 wasn't "one of the best defenders of all time". Quit revising history. Malone had 3 inches and 50 pounds on a guy who was way past his prime, you can't possibly come up with a legit excuse for Malone being frustrated by Rodman the way he was.
