I don't particularly think it was a gutsy call at all, but if this is the extent of the spin I'd gladly take it when compared to landing on a carrier with a god damn flight suit on.
Sarcastic hyperbole counts.

That wasn't a victory lap! Laying a wreath -- that's a ing victory lap!
Every team passed on Brady at least five times, since he was picked in the 6th round.
Never understood why that infuriates the left.
because he lied his way to war. try and keep up
Why not? Just curious.
don't forget he threw over a trillion dollars at the MIC and we have gotten 0 return for our money....can you imagine if the Bush administration had thrown a trillion dollars toward alternative energy and fuel cell development instead....choices people, choices....
The right is infuriated over Obama's wreath laying.
Gutsy implies you have an option. There was a risk of failure, but was Obama really going to pass on the opportunity to get Bin Laden? It would have been far riskier to pass on it.
Whats the worst that happens? He gets away? If the team dies or suffers casualties its not exactly 1979 and its in pretty much an active warzone so its not like the nation will go Carter on him.
Yeah, there was a risk of failure but it seems like a pretty obvious decision to make to me.
The right is absolutely incensed with Obama taking credit for the Obama operation yet you don't see how landing on a carrier with a flight suit on pisses people off? Really? What do you think Bush was trying to look like, Darrin?
When you add in the fact that we were in Iraq for nearly a decade after that stunt, its pretty god damn obvious to anyone with a brain why that would be offensive.
Really? You don't think screwing up the plan to capture Osama bin Laden is pretty much an instant death knell for a 2012 campaign? Republicans would have a field day with that. "Obama is incompetent!" etc etc
I believe the other option would have been missiles or bombs.
You don't think those same people would have had an even bigger field day if he didn't try?
Republicans definitely would have had fun if the operation failed since they weren't really involved. They could go all out with criticism of Obama being incompetent and on top of that they would hammer home the point that some of his advisors were against the operation and he still didn't listen blah blah blah.
How would they have known? Who would've told them?
You're kidding yourself if you think it wouldn't have gotten out that Obama passed on going after Bin Laden. It was a no brainer IMO. Obama really didn't have any other realistic option.
It might've gotten out, but I doubt it would've during Obama's presidency. Even then, the source probably would've been questioned.
I think it would have been let out much sooner than that. The largest source of leaks is disgruntled members of the admin and not going after Bin Laden is going to cause people to disagree big time and then leak.
How do you figure it was a no-brainer? How exactly would it get out that Obama passed on going after Bin Laden if no one had any clue if he was really there in the first place? They had constant surveillance on that compound and no one had seen him. Up to the day Obama gave the order they still had no concrete evidence Bin Laden was there which is why some of his advisors were against giving consent for the raid. It was risky to give the go-ahead because it could have been a big cluster if things didn't pan out right. Republicans not only would have jumped on it if it all failed but Pakistan probably would have shook their finger at the U.S. and got their word in as well.
I doubt someone would take a chance on leaking that info. That's national security. And as I said, even if leaked, it would probably be dismissed.
You never know, but I'd be surprised if THAT info got out. Only the key players probably knew about it, so an leak would come from a small pool of sources.
Yeah I hear Americans really care about what Pakistan thinks. Its a no brainer to go after your best shot at Bin Laden. And nothing you've posted takes away from the fact this was the best shot at him. Anyone here think they would have passed?
I honestly don't understand the desire to name what is an obvious decision that the president should have made as gutsy. It would have been gutless has he passed on this, but that doesn't make this some special order. The president makes tough orders every day. Its his job.
Who here would have passed on going after him??
