If we're ranking the best pure scorers in NBA history, where does Nowitzki rank?..so, obviously, ignoring all other facets of the game, and just focusing on scoring..
Who is ahead of him?..
Note that not only is he unstoppable, but he's also one of the most efficient players of all-time..very few players have scored like he does, while shooting 3s and making free throws at the same rate..

I remember a few years ago Dirk getting compared on TNT to Tom Chambers
IF Dirk gets a ring then you can drop the OFFENSE rankings and compare him as an all around player. If he wins a ring this season I could see him stepping into the TOP25 of All Time with room to move up

Has to be top 10 due to the matchup problems he creates along with the stats. He's carried Dallas, almost by himself, since their big 3 was dismantled.... if he had a respectable 2nd option, he possibly would have a ring, and we could rank him more respectably...
it's unfortunate that the Golden State anomaly occurred when it did, and that Stern wanted the Heat to win in the finals.
Dirk isn't even in the top 50 all time. I don't know where he ranks, maybe in the top 150 or so.

In terms of pure scoring, definitely top 15, may be top 10 of all time.
Top 15, off the top of my head, in no order: Wilt, Oscar, Jabbar, West, Baylor, Rick Barry, Gervin, Dr. J, Bird, King, Jordan, Iverson, Shaq, Kobe, Dirk

He's in Jeff Van Gundy's "Top 5 Shooters of all time", lol seriously I think Van Gundy secretly hates the Mavs haha. But anyway, I'd say he's top 10 when it comes to scoring. I mean just think of all of his strengths: Great midrange shooter, Very good 3 point shooter, can score in the post, can find open teammates, and can handle the ball quite well for a 7 footer. The guy is just a great player, it's a shame they didn't win in '06 and '07 but it seems like he and the Mavs may actually have learned from those experiences. It would be great to see him win a ring, but it's going to be amazingly hard. He can do it though.
dirk easily a top5 PF of all time imo, da 2nd greatest player to retire w/o a ring (the 1st being malone undoubtedly)
Right now, in terms of PF he is still behind TD, KG, Malone and Barkley with respect to his legacy.
If he makes another Finals run though, I might be tempted to say that only TD and Malone have a better career than him.
Definitely top 5 PFs. Overall he'll finish around 20 at the least.

Many of you think basketball just started 10 years ago. Dirk is not in the top 15 all time in pure scoring.
He's barely in the top 10 NOW in pure scoring.
NBA.com ranks him 23rd all time for points. How does that make him top 15? It's not opinion. Scoring is an actual numbers game. If he climbs to 15, sure... but he hasn't yet. There's no reason to extrapolate years he hasn't played.
