Started reading about the Spurs in the Express News Sports page as a kid. Have been a fan since 76.
Some recent discussion here on ST has led me to ask the following two questions of ST posters:
(1) Why are you a Spurs fan?
and
(2) How long have you been one?
Go for it STers!
Started reading about the Spurs in the Express News Sports page as a kid. Have been a fan since 76.
1) a) I am a massive Tottenham Hotspurs (Spurs) football fan
b) Manu Ginobili is my absolute favourite player
2) 2 years
Let me go search through one of the other numerous "Why are you a Spurs fan" threads and copy and paste my response here . . . brb.
Moved to San Antonio just before David Robinson's rookie season, love the community, great team, class acts etc
Very good reasons. I am not in San Antonio, but I've always loved what the Spurs stood for, since the mid 90s. Have been a fan of the Spurs ever since. Professionalism and integrity have always seemed really high on the Spurs' list regardless of talent. I guess there have a been a few exceptions i.e. S Jackson, but he wasn't too bad compared to most other problem children (Pick anyone from the Jailblazers of yesteryear - Sheed, Isiah Rider, Bonzi et al...).
my friend told me that they play good, so I became a fan.
after the 1999 le.
I fell in love with Sean Elli0t, DRob, Kearsy, Kerr, Duncan & all the others. The memorial day miracle shot from Elli0t was the single most exciting moment in sports as far as I'm concernced.
1. Tim Duncan
2. 9 years
Been a fan since the first game I went to which was a playoff game between the Bullets and the Spurs.
Baby, I was born this way /Gaga
i was born in san antonio and have been going to games for as long as i can remember
When David Robinson was drafted in 87, and a die hard in 89 when Sean Elliott , David Robinson, Terry mings and Willie Anderson all came together.
1998 when i was 15 years old. I was just starting to play basketball at school with my mates and although i sucked and always will, had a great time. I always listened to my friends crapping on about the Knicks and the Bulls etc. and decided i had to learn more about basketball and find my own team.
I went to the shop and bought an october edition of 'one on one' magazine. On the front cover was a picture of David Robinson who i knew from the dream team and videos etc and next to David was Tim Duncan and the headline wrote 'Men in Black'
I read the article and just loved what they said about the spurs and david robinson and although Timmy had just been draftted they wrote this about him.
"For San Antonio Spurs fans, the sins of the past have been forgiven... Tim Duncan is in town"
I was likewoah this kid must be good for them to say that when he's never played a game. I got my mum to buy me spurs shorts and a duncan jersey online and i've been a die hard spurs fan ever since
I copied the pictures of Tim and David and did drawings in art class. Timmy has never let me down, the man is a living legnd.
So that's it, it was really just fate to buy that exact magazine during that particular month. If it was another magazine in another month i might have chosen a different team? I hate the term bandwagoner. I started following basketball the year Timmy entered the NBA and that's the way it was. I couldn't be happier

Grew up in SA. Only sport in town, so naturally started watching them
1975. I liked Ice, Silas and Larry Kenon, my girlfriend at the time loved Mark Olberding, so we started going to Spurs games in the Hemisfair Arena.
It was the best entertainment around for $5.
i t hought this was a tottenham spurs forum...
Been a Spurs fan ever since I got nose bleed Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood tickets in the 3rd grade. lol Oh, also came with a coupon for a free Church's Chicken meal.![]()
Born & raised in San Antonio. Pretty much all that really needs to be said. One of the first famous people I can remember recognizing was David Robinson. First professional event was a Spurs game. Favorite stuffed animal was a Spurs Coyote doll. Etc etc...
Grew up outside of Oklahoma City as a kid and started to play and get interested in basketball in about 90. In early 91( I was 11yo) we had to pick article from magazine to do a short report about. I chose a Sports Illustrated for kids which had an article in it about DROB. This article highlighted his journey to Navy and onto the NBA and how he fulfilled his commitment and just really impacted me as a star athlete I could look up to. That was the beginning - the 92 season I discovered after about 8pm or so I could pick up 1200 WOAI way up in OKC though not always the clearest - I fell asleep with the radio under my pillow trying to stay awake for those west coast road swings - Now while I do consider OKC my hometown I am still a diehard Spurs fan first - though I do root and follow the Thunder somewhat
I'm a Gregg Popovich fan. I could give a about the Spurs. Four rings, ers!
