Kidd wasn't the right fit for that Mavs team. They needed a point guard that could slash and drive or dish to open people up. They made up it partially with better defense thanks to Chandler, Marion, Stevenson, and Haywood. Also Marion and Chandler are great around the rim as well. And Peja opens things up for the bench as well. This team has way more talent than the 2006 team. Yet that team almost won it. Harris must've been doing something right that Kidd couldn't do.

If you knew what the you are talking about, Terry was the starting PG, and Harris was SG. So actually, Terry took the Mavs to the Finals, not Harris, genius. And now its looking like Kidd is about to be the starting PG of the Mavs heading into the Finals.

Kidd 1, Harris 0.

Without Harris's great performances, the Mavs wouldn't have been in position to beat that great Spurs team. They won 3 in a row due largely to Devin Harris. Criticize Avery all you want but that was gutsy move putting Harris in the starting lineup. Terry had no chance on Parker.

Harris did nice early on in that series, no question, although dont forget how he completely the bed in games 6 and 7.

And it could easily be said that without Kidd providing veteran leadership, hitting key 3s, and most of all playing some damn good defense on Kobe who >>>>>>> Tony Parker, the Mavs don't beat LA who were back-to-back champs. And make no mistake, beating the Lakers was more monumental than when the Mavs beat the Spurs.

He's the franchise player, but just like when Garnett was in Minnesota, it's never his fault.

Dirk definitely has the talent to be better than a good amount of those guys. We've seen it a couple of years ago. We'll see with Carslile wether he can regain his best form, or if he's just standing pat. I like Carslile, and I think the Mavs needed some fresh air in the bench. But it's going to be up to Dirk to regain the lost ground.
