Great response kid. I know how you can get more attention... keep cussing. Im confused on why if Shaq was such a great player did he get nothing done with the Magic, abused by Karl Malone/Greg Ostertag in his early LA career, and only win once Kobe started his run?

Shaq was a large, large, man with minimal basketball skill but enough athleticism and size to cover up his deficiencies. His personality and skill set in a time when the NBA only wanted dunks propelled him to a higher level for sure. HIS ALL AROUND GAME was strictly based on size rather than skill.

    HOF yes. GOAT no

    Have you ever played basketball?
    ass , shooby-de-doo-wop.

Shaq took the magic to a 60 win season and to the finals and they were beat by Hakeems Rockets. And yeah, I play basketball. I put up a thread on this forum and actually play with some members on this board, along with friends, from time to time. I would love to see you on the court, sir.

Shaq is one of the greatest personalities to ever grace professional sports. It will be a less interesting league when he's gone.
He's already gone - he just hasn't officially retired.

If you love Shaq, don't worry. He'll instantly have a job as an NBA iin-studio analyst.

Shaq was indeed one of the most dominant players this league has ever seen. An unstoppable force in his prime. However personally, I can do without him and corny-ass, childish, media- -mongering, antics. I could care less if I have heard from him again.

He doesnt outrank Jordan, Wilt, Bird, Kobe, Chamberlain, or (eventually) LeBron, but he did his thing and hes certainly in the discussion.
Shaq > Kobe. Spurs fans should be happy that Shaq didn't have a good work ethic or he'd probably be the 2nd GOAT and won more rings. Much as I hate the Lakers and Kobe, I can't hate on Shaq. He is a freak of nature - that combination of size and athleticism was something to behold.

He's not 6'11 Look at him Compared to Tim & KG they tower over him. He's 6'9 at most. He just has hops that's what makes up for small size as well as his strength.

his listing is at 6'11. ill stick with that as my back up, you stick with your reasoning and possibly the logic that "we all know they pad the height listings".

The level of hateration on this board is off the charts and the funny thing is half the people hating are prolly scrubs on an actual court. talking about Shaq is "above average". man get the out of here. what have you been living under a rock? He was Dwight Howard before Dwight Howard was dominant.
Haha just the fact that you called him Dwight before Dwight shows you've never even seen him play in his prime, because I don't recall Dwight ever coming close to putting up 30ppg.

Shaq is a great player and great person. It would be sad to see him go. I dont get all the hate, but well, sport and ridiculous hate seem to go hand in hand well these days

I believe he talked a lot of about David back in the day. Wasn't he the one who called the Spurs the Mermaids? I don't hate Shaq but I can see why other people would. He's basically a gigantic child. But he's an IRL troll so it's all good.

I think the hate, at least on this forum, stems from three things:

    1) His at ude and comments toward David Robinson and the Alamo City (which is, coincidentally, where he played high school ball).

    2) 2001-2002, 2004

    3) His career twilight of riding the nearest coattails to try to ring one more time

He's been better suited to the commentator's booth for a while now imo.

draftexpress (which is usually pretty accurate) lists Howard as 6'9" w/o shoes, 6'10" with . . . of course it's possible that he has grown since his rookie year.

Now I thought there would be some opposing views cause some actually think shaq had some skill, but I never thought I'd see shaq -suckers on Spurs-talk.

I actually did witness Shaq play in his prime and had the pleasure of shaking the man's hand. I thought he was a pretty nice guy. I was making more of a comparison between their personas. Dwight Howard's media attention makes him the most famous big-man in the NBA, as Shaq was during his prime. As for scoring volume, you're right, Howard doesn't match it. But, Howard has had a number of very high-scoring games and puts more of a premium on defense than Shaq ever did. All I was saying was that they both are/were the most prominent big men in the league.

I get that sometimes listings are inaccurate, but i'd still take them as the official measurements, rather than the estimation of some online poster.

A legend? I'll give you he was a good athlete for his size, other than that he was simply the biggest kid on the block. You add to that all the dunking and stupid-ass quotes and kid movies made him marketable, which in turn allows him to get away with murder on the court and theres your legend. A liabilty down the strech(FTs) a bad defender and unachieving rebounder for his size. And ofcourse conspiricy see the sacramento kings, portland trailblazers and ofcourse 0.4!
    So whose your dealer?

I forgot how stupid you are, sorry.

Have you not seen Spurs vs Magic? Everytime Howard and Tim are side by side Tim clearly towers over him, only a dumb ass wouldn't know or notice that.
