I haven't been able to see much of him recently, but I'm rethinking my earlier preconceptions on Singler. He actually seems to make a lot of sense. He provides a lot of what the Spurs need and very definitely could be available.

Of course, in a weak draft like this I could see more teams opting against drafting on potential (especially with diminished potential available overall) and opting for the seniors earlier. Some mediocre team will probably fall in love with him and grab him in the high teens or early to mid 20's.

Singler definitely seems to fit the mold of what the Spurs like though. The Spurs have never been scared of drafting seniors and thus have had good success with people that have had long successful college careers instead of those that are all potential. Singler definitely matches.

I'm starting to like Kyle Singler more and more. I think he would fit in well with the team.

Currently I'm not convinced. He's not a deadeye shooter. I'm not sure he can defend on an NBA level - not good enough athletically on the perimeter, and not strong enough in the paint...
If I was looking for a small forward, I would prefer to try rehabilitating Tyler Smith, given our success with Gary Neal.

    pad300,

I've long been negative on Singler, but I'm revisiting the thought. But you bring up many of the negatives against him that are well do ented. He doesn't really have a true position and I wish he were a better shooter.

    I'm torn.

Singler has no idea when and where he'll be drafted, but his agent has fielded inquiries from Dallas, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Denver and Portland as the most interested parties leading up to the draft.

Another white player on the team.
The spurs need size and defensive toughness.

Another average athlete without NBA explosiveness.

Duke players tend to be busts in the NBA.

I agree that duke has had some overated players but with 13 players on NBA rosters this seasonthey still are producing NBA talent which cannot be ignored. At #29, I would be very appy with singler who is ready to contribute right away to an NBA team.

Only if hes the best player on the board at 29. Im a big Duke fan, and I love Singlers heart. He is a hard worker, who will be a deadly shooter in a year or two. He has good size and is a good rebounder and passer for a SF as well as a good Ball handler.

I think he would make a real nice fourth option and could develop into a 15ppg guy but we dont need any more athleticly challenged players.
Thats funny considering the spurs are drafting #29..Most here think the spurs will be able to find and athletic, 6'8-7ft player, who can score, and defend with this late pick. Here some news guys, these players will be long gone by #29 and the few athletic players left on the board that late can do little of anything else but jump and run. There's a reason why teams who always draft late eventually get described as an "unathletic" team, thats cause all these players went to help the bad teams already..

there is always Keith Benson at 29. he is athletic. he also blocks and alters shots around the rim, something we desperately need.

I take Singler over Benson, Benson is a second rounder to me. Singler is a guy who could be a Battier type player in a few years. Not gonna be a star, but smart, hard worker, can play 2-3 spots, can shoot it.

Good 6th man type player, good glue guy.
I don't want to sound mean or racist but white boys out of duke usually suck in the NBA.

I'd take Benson any day of the weak.

Would this pick make the spurs the only team in sports history to roster two gingers?

You do sound like a racist and and even stupider for basing this as your reason for not drafting singler...

It's true and I'm not racist. In fact almost every player white or black out of Duke sucks ass in the NBA.

He is the Ty Hansbrough of this draft. Not a sexy pick but a hard worker, gonna be a good role player. Has played in big games and made big shots, well coached.

Red has turned into a solid player, while singler is not the shooter JJ is he is a more skilled player with 4 more inchs.

I just cannot see the spurs taking Benson.
Red was/is a disappointment, Irving is gonna be a bust, I'm sorry but players out of Duke usually suck ass.
    We need athletes.

Red is not a disappointment, hes one of the only magic players that has any value. Took him a while to adjust to NBA plus he has had disc issues in his back, but when given playing time he has looked good.

Magic refused to trade him the last 2 years.

While I agree Duke players have struggled, Hill ,Brand, Maggette all turned out to be good pros, Irving is a special player and baring Injury he will be a top 5 pg in 2 years.

I agree we need athletes, but as pop says you can find an athlete anywhere they have to be able to play. Singler can play on both ends and at 29 would be a steal.
Irving has played 11 total games I don't honestly see what makes him so special I see a bust.
What do you see in Kyle Singler that makes u so confident?
We need to get quicker and more athletic this guy has none of those qualities.

So Randolph, who is nothing close to athletic knocks the spurs out of the playoffs and takes one of the most athletic teams in OKC to 7 games and you still think athletic is the only way to go? RJ is considered athletic at the 3 and he worked out great. Spurs simply need to get younger, I could care less about getting more athletic

Bro RJ was 30 years old when we got him and it's obvious he's not really athletic at all anymore. I'm talking shot blockers like a josh smith or a really athletic small forward. BTW Memphis was all ing luck, Gasol came back to life their luck ended!

The day we get young and "really athletic" is the day we will not be concerned about winning a championship, just worried about our lottery position...Dont worry, you may get your wish in about 3-4 years though..

I see Singler more like a young Najera. He provides the same type of effort. Maybe, we need more of that than more shooting.

I hope not. Spurs should get that big man from USC. Duke players usually always disappoint.

Duke has been turning out sub-par pros. But Singler and Nolan Smith could be decent rotation guys. Unfortunately for Singler there are only a couple teams left that play his temp of basketball. Utah is one, San Antonio is not. I could see Portland take him.
