It's a good thing they put sunset rules on these temporary laws.

I'm not. It has gone beyond it's original intent, thanks to Obama and company.

Oh, didn't know if you flip flopped on this again now that the House majority is controlled by your team.

I take 'company' to mean the previous administration and the current House majority...

Are you intentionally lying, or forgetful?

I have little respect for the republicans as a whole. I simply hate most the democrats so the republicans become the choice of the lesser of two evils generally.

I have said that sooooo many times.

Keep it up, and I'll think you have a low IQ.

I'm not lying, nor forgetful... that's why I'm calling you out on it.

Let me update the record. Now, the Patriot Act is a POS regardless of 'Obama and company'... gotcha.

Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country

Turning the Camera on the Police

What’s good for the police apparently isn’t good for the people—or so the law enforcement community would have us believe when it comes to surveillance.

That’s a concise summary of a new trend reported by National Public Radio last week—a trend whereby law enforcement officials have been trying to prevent civilians from using cellphone cameras in public places as a means of deterring police brutality.

Oddly, the effort—which employs both forcible arrests of videographers and legal proceedings against them—comes at a time when the American Civil Liberties Union reports that “an increasing number of American cities and towns are investing millions of taxpayer dollars in surveillance camera systems.”

Then again, maybe it’s not odd that the two trends are happening simultaneously. Maybe they go hand in hand. Perhaps as more police officers use cameras to monitor every move we make, they are discovering the true power of video to independently do ent events. And as they see that power, they don’t want it turned against them.

Police officers, he told NPR, “need to move quickly, in split seconds, without giving a lot of thought to what the adverse consequences for them might be.” He added that law enforcement authorities believe that “anything that’s going to have a chilling effect on an officer moving—an apprehension that he’s being videotaped and may be made to look bad—could cost him or some citizen their life.”

We should want more officers feeling “apprehension” about breaking civil liberties laws, we should hope more of them “give a lot of thought to what the adverse consequences” will be if they trample someone’s rights and we should crave an immediate “chilling effect” on such violations.

    The always-expanding bipartisan Surveillance State

"We are witnessing the bipartisan normalization and legitimization of a national-surveillance state." There are three events -- all incredibly from the last 24 hours -- which not only prove how true that is, but vividly highlight how it functions and why it is so odious.

First, consider what Democrats and Republicans just jointly did with regard to the Patriot Act,

Next we have a new proposal from the Obama White House to drastically expand the scope of "National Security Letters"

Do you remember the thread that mentioned the current administration wanting to add more to the patriot act?

Like I said, are you lying or forgetful.

Go back, and look at my responses there.

You're right. I didn't. I didn't recall the specifics, and wasn't going to review the history of it. Still don't plan to.

Are you claiming things were not added since I supported it?

Now if you wish to go back to those original threads, i do recall saying something to the effect that I trusted the intent, but not the actions of the people who have access to the tools.

To satisfy you, direct quotations and videos must be produced, but the rest of us must rest content with the assurance that your own fuzzy memories on the subject are authoritative. Wow.

I said this before. You don't matter. I have better things to do than prove my word to you and others here.

Why don't you tell us which changes you disagree with? How hard is that?
