I have a love/hate relationship with 80's music. I'm 41 yrs old...i was learning to play the drums and guitar around '83-'84. Had a garage rock band around that time...got into a heavy rock band in the late 80's....and another rock/blues/funk band in the mid 90's.
My point is simply that i despised pop music in the 80's. Most of it was bubble gum synth-pop bull IMO.....followed in the late 80's with a ton of garbage hair metal bands that were all doing the same . I think the 80's music pre-MTV blow up/pre Michael Jackson's Thriller/pre Madonna's Like a Virgin/pre Rap crap was the BEST 80's music by far...and some of the best music ever made was in 80/81/82>>>>coming out of the 70's(which IMO was a far superior decade musically than the 80's).
I feel that the music of the 90's was a major rebound from the mid to late 80's
I admit that decades later i can appreciate some if it much more now....
but before MTV took over the world and every Tom & Harry began to make music for videos so that they could be "seen" and not necessarily "heard" we had some classics. Several examples:

I'm glad "Africa" has experienced a rebirth of sorts the last few years.
I remember 20 years ago when I used to listen to the radio all day waiting to hit "record" on songs for mix tapes, and that was the song I wanted most but never heard on the radio.

Great song, but from the mid-90's. And I think it was more a "Texas thing" than a "San Antonio" thing, even though I think 2 of the guys were from SA.
I couldn't find the one I was looking for anywhere, so I posted that one. Didn't even think about the timing.
They originated here (in SA).
