Did AHF say he was upset more tornadoes didn't hit homes? I'm pretty sure he just was upset he didn't get to see a storm out in the open field. Given the choice of not seeing a tornado and seeing a tornado hit someone's home I'm pretty sure I know what the vast majority of people would pick.

So then whats the big deal about wanting a tornado to come down in an open field so he can see it? You're the one who brought up people losing their homes and implied it. Not me. The only way you can make it seem bad is by implying that is what people who want to see tornadoes root for. Otherwise 99% of people I come across think seeing a tornado is pretty damn neat.

I don't think its funny. I just think its cool. I like to talk about weather events because they obviously interest me a great deal. I'm past the age where I care about trying to act cool in everything I do.

there is no way you can tell, travelling on a highway, that a tornado touching down in the distance is not putting any homes or property in harms way.

    lame hobby either way

aggiehoopsfan, why do you want torandoes to touch down and get annoyed when they dont?
Spent over seven hours in a car yesterday, it would have been nice.

I don't want to see anything near residences, but where we were at yesterday it was largely wide open fields. Don't mind seeing them there.

    really?

there are professionals and there is aggiehoopsfan and the 20 or so other amateur storm chasers he saw yesterday just getting in the way hoping for MORE tornadoes to touch down just so they can take video and get a "rush"
I'm not sure you can call anyone "professionals". I guess the Storm Chasers guys, etc., but I hope you realize that while "doing it for science", they are also making money off selling the footage to television stations.

So, who's a worse human being? Someone who needs tornadoes to touch down and film them to make a living, or someone doing it recreationally and/or doing it as a public service?

For the record, my buddy that I chased with yesterday and I are both trained spotters, and would be obligated to report any sightings we make (all the areas we caught storms yesterday already had the sirens blaring but we would have called in to confirm to the NWS had we observed a touchdown so they could get the message out to the public).

Additionally, I'm a certified first responder, and would react as you'd expect if (and I hope not for everyone's sake) there was ever a situation with injured/trapped people that we came across in the event of a touchdown.

So while yeah, there was definitely some adventure in it for me, I'd like to think I'm a little more than some hack amateur chaser out to get his jollies from a twister.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I understand where you're coming from. Our planet fascinates me. From scuba to weather, it's just an interest of mine. Mother Nature can be beautiful one moment, destructive and deadly the next.

Other people have the same interests. With the proliferation of knowledge and easy access to the events (I mean come on - you've got guys streaming storms from a dashmounted camera these days), it's hard to not get caught up in the phenomenon.

Generally speaking, the weather itself is fun to watch and tornadoes are interesting (and rare). We're just seeing some really sh!tty luck this year with so many storms impacting populated areas.

Storms are fastly approaching. Rotating wall cloud near Carmi, IL has been spotted. I'm in Morganfield, KY. Looking dark here, but nothing has hit here yet.
