The US hosted a cup quite recently in WC/fifa standards, there are other much more deserving countries, simple as that. England has a much, much better argument to host its second WC than the US does, really the only argument for the US is money but as the Qatar bid shows a WC will make money regardless of where it is hosted.

As for FIFA corruption, of course it sucks and who wouldnt like reform, but it happens in every pro sports league. There is too much easy money for execs to make from the fans, as long as that's the case there will be corruption in sport.

If Switzerland, Sweden, Chile, Japan/Korea, and South Africa can host a cup (all smaller countries, some with low footie culture/pedigree), then so can Qatar. From a heat/environmental conditions standpoint, the eastern coast of the americas (Brazil, Mexico, US, Argentina/Uruguay WC's I'm looking at you) is just as taxing for a player as the middle east- maybe even moreso, because to maximize the TV dollar they have to play at midday on the eastern coast of the americas, but in the middle east they will likely play at night.

Football always has and always will be the world game, using cultural reasons to disqualify the arabs is weak. did they make bribes? Without having seen a shred of evidence and not following the news closely, I would bet my left nut they did. But do you fools think the same didnt happen in every other WC bid, in the olympics bids, or even when some corp is looking for a HQ or a new factory, or when the local govt near you needs to allocate govt funds. thats life, I'm not saying people should just look the other way, but it looks pathetic to get zealous and want to disqualify one process when you dont do the same the zillion other times it happens around you...

I've been out of town on a mini vacation, but to follow up on my point...

disqualifying Qatar for being culturally backwards by western standards ( phobia, women's rights, alcohol consumption I believe are the main arguments against) is weak because those things dont have anything to do with football. When western countries had those same problems ( phobia, women's rights), they still had world cups. Hosting a world cup will help qatar and other arab nations "catch up" on these issues, its not like they are wavering to change but are going to back off because they've been validated by a world cup. On the contrary, a massive influx of foreigners (that arent soldiers!) will only help the region grow up and become more integrated to the world community.

The only valid reasons IMO to really object to a country's bid would be genocide, war, or a dictatorship that oppresses, censors, steals from its people, or destroys the environment. The only cultural reason I can think of right now might be cannibalism, anarchy, or ins utionalized pedophilia, none of which is the case here (or ever).

And even if that were the case and Qatar were so backwards that they dont deserve a WC, England would still be more deserving than the US. Really, I dont see any good reason for the US hosting another WC for the next 20 years

well, another thing to consider is that qatar is more progressive than other ME states. AFAIK, they dont practice female cir cision and actually allow women to vote; they are also home base for Al Jazeera, which i believe has played an important role in modernizing the region. I'll stick to my position that giving them a WC will help liberalize them more and show other ME states that by opening up and embracing human rights they will be accepted by the world community.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter says he does not have any intention of taking the 2022 World Cup away from Qatar but could reconsider if new evidence comes to light.

Serious questions have been raised over FIFA's decision to award the World Cup to Qatar, with the bribery charges brought against Qatari Mohammed Bin Hammam adding to the initial concerns over the climate and local laws.

Blatter has announced that a Solutions Committee, featuring Nobel Peace Prize winner Henry Kissinger, will launch an investigation to clean up the governing body and has now vowed to take action if suitable evidence arises.

"Now, at this moment, we are not touching the Qatar World Cup, but we are going step by step into the matters we have to realise and if somewhere through this Solutions Committee they should say we have to have a look at that, then we will do that," he said.

Newly-elected FIFA executive committee member Theo Zwanziger earlier called for the 2022 decision to be reopened, but Blatter added: "When I spoke with Zwanziger he realised it's too easy to say we should re-open things. He knows he has to first come to FIFA with the evidence and everybody must produce evidence.

"Concerning the sponsors, I haven't received any, let's say, reservations made by any sponsor of FIFA that we should change anything with Qatar yet."
