Why can't we just talk about basketball?
After this game, I would rather talk about something else.![]()
You can believe me or not, but I was serious about most of the things I said. Should I have posted them in this thread or on this board? Nope, I shouldn't have. This thread is suppose to be about game 1 of the Finals. I lost control and people took advantage of it. I should have kept my mouth shut. As a Mavs fans, the only thing that will erase 2006 is a championship. No ifs, ands, or buts. I shouldn't have put my personal on here. So I apologize for that. You can take it or leave it. It's up to you.
I just hope the Mavs get their heads out of their asses and play better in game 2 otherwise, it's probably gonna be over. The Mavs will have to shoot lights out and Dirk and the bench better in step up. The Mavs have to shoot at least 45 percent in game 2 to even have a chance. If they do that, and contain the Heat's spares, they have a really good chance. The Mavs can let Lebich, DWhistle, and Raptor take shots and score but they can't let washed up players like Bibby and Miller beat them.
+1
Dallas was able to get a lot of good looks through their ball-movement, and Barea was able to slice into the lane at will, just as I had predicted. Unfortunately, they did not convert their shots. I have a hard time believing they will miss so many open shots and chippies at the rim again.
On the other hand, the Mavs accomplished exactly what they wanted on defense... they forced Miami to win with jumpshots, and kept the paint pretty well guarded with the zone. I again have a hard time believing that Miami (Bron and Wade in particular) will be able to outshoot Dallas through an entire series.
It should be a major concern for Miami. It's got [disaster] written all over it. I have to believe the Heat see this & understand the danger.
Agreed. I wonder how Miami will make adjustments for this in G2. Although IMO, like I said, their defense can be beat with good ball-movement, regardless of their adjustments, mainly because of the fact that they have no legit paint presence.
I will say, the desicion to put Lebron on Terry was genius on the Heat's part. Terry is such a mental midget and is so impatient, that he ed up on numerous posessions later in the game, when trying to get entry passes to Dirk. Bron would crowd Terry, and either Terry would kill his dribble and get in trouble, or would get impatient and pass the ball elsewhere, not allowing Dirk to get the ball. If JET doesnt get his head out of his ass, the Mavs might have to run less of the Terry/Dirk PnR, and more Kidd/Dirk PnR, otherwise Terry is going to take a lot of opportunities away from Dirk like he did last night.
the Miami jump shot argument was used vs. Boston and Chicago as well, tbh..
Bron and Wade are going to figure out how to get to the basket with that zone. And turning Bosh into a jumpshooter isn't exactly a good thing for Dallas.
another great point. i wont say atrocious but for one of like 2 players to average over 20+ points and 10+ boards for his career, his rebounding has been disappointing. and he will need to step that up for them to win especially since he cant guard Bosh ...so he has to hold his own on the boards.
Problem is they will blitz Kidd if they run pnr with him and dirk. kidd is at his best as a spot shooter ..on th emove he is not nearly as effective. Terry and JJB have to be better because they will have to take advantage of that split second when the big man "shows hard" vs. the pnr ...
I'd rather have them blitz Kidd and have him run around dribbling, than Terry. Terry will find a way to do something stupid. Kidd will still make the best possible play.
But I agree, they need Terry and Barea to settle down and hit their shots like they have all playoffs. Hopefully it was just a case of the nerves in G1, and thats it.
GREAT defense - 37.3%
Mavs defense - 38.8%
Miami went nuts from 3, hitting 11 of 24 - far above their averages. It also marked only the 8th time in 98 games their bench has outscored the opponent and the first time they've done it by 10+points. Kudos to the Heat if that can hold up for 3 more games.
You are right of course Kidd is abetter decison maker than terry, no doubt about it. But we have to give credit the heat's rotations were good. Terry and JJB actually got a step on their man on multiple occasions, but Lebron and Wade are so good at blocking shots from behind Mavs seemed nervous plus the heat bigs (even Bosh) did a great job of helping before terry or JJB could get off "floaters" they hit vs. OKC and LAL ...
I do think the Mavs will be better, especially at home. But i dont see the heat losing 3 straight in Dallas. It's not IMPOSSIBLE but not bloody likely. Game 2 is vital for both teams but for the Mavs, more so.
The team that wins Game 2 will win the le. Book it.
The Mavs and their psyche will be ed if they lose Thursday night. Not to say that recovering is impossible, just not likely if that were to occur.
miami beat the mavs at their own game. destroyed the bench, and hit 3s. lebron hit alot of them including a sideways fallaway.
Really premature, but I kinda get that feeling too.
Come on Dallas, lets win on Thursday! Go Mavericks!!!!!
Terry had some good looks. Barea not so much.
Barea had 3 gimme's and only made 1 of them. The rest of his shots were highly contested.
Terry had 6 relatively uncontested 3-pt shots(one was a 26-footer). So throw out the 26-foot three pointer, which was a poor shot and not a shot you expect to see him make, and Terry went 3-5 on his good looks from downtown. These are pretty much the shots you expect to see him make. Only one of his 3-pt attempts was contested well, and he missed it.
He had only 3 shots from 2-pt range. 2 of those shots were highly contested by Bosh and Haslem and were not good attempts. He had 1 shot in the PnR that was a gimme from 15 feet but missed.
All in all, he went 3-6 on shots you expect to see him make. He forced some shots, but that was mostly due to the shot clock. So when you break it down he didn't exactly have a bad shooting night. But those are shots he hit against the Lakers and Thunder, and when you take that away, the Mavs scoring takes a big hit.
Marion was big because he filled the void left by Barea and Peja's inability to score, but I still think Terry is the x-factor. I don't expect Barea to have a big series and i don't really know what to expect out of Peja, but if Terry isn't perfect with his open looks I don't think the Mavs have a chance in this series.
