What I said was politicians take advantage of that bias and use it to their advantage. The bias is do to the fact that pitbulls have a reputation mainly cause they are owned by trashy people a whole lot of the time. The main point I'd get across is that there's nothing that can be done about it. If you can raise a German Sheperd to not be smart, a bloodhound not to have a good sense of smell, a bassett not to follow his nose, a terrier not to be hyper, then I'll believe you can raise a pitbull with no fighting, aggressive tendencies.
It's going to take generations of proper breeding of pitbulls to get rid of that instinct that was breed into them since their exisistance. I know there are some out there that are totally trustworthy. These come from people that have breed these dogs in a normal dog fashion and not to fight. I would trust a pit if I knew it's parents, their parents... and if the owners who breed them are family orientated.
Now with that being said, I personally wouldn't have one with children. There are too many variables to get a proper pitbull. Without children, I would feel comfortable owning one.

Your point sounds good but the problem is that Pit bulls (which isn't a breed anyway) were bred to bait bears then for dog fighting, not people fighting. They have been know throughout their history to be one of the most friendly and loyal dogs to their human owners.

I own a pitbull St. Bernard mix and he's seriously the sweetest dog I've ever met. He's always happy and lets my older dog have its way even though he could tear my older dog in half if he wanted to. If he was adopted by some minority (like the same race as hater and chug ) and raised to show its teeth at everything it would be a ty dog.
Pitbulls have extremely strong jaws and make the best watch dogs, so hood rat minorities chose them when they want a dog who will fight and scare people off, but you can raise a German Shepard and several other breeds to be just as mean.

You "hopefully" didn't get a Pit Bull to protect you anyway. If you needed a guard dog, you would have looked into other breeds more suitable for protection, or best, just get a good alarm system. You would not impose to an animal the responsibility to judge situations and make intelligent decisions that could eventually bite him back in the ass if ever he was wrong...!
You got a Pit Bull because you wanted a trustworthy and friendly companion, and maybe a dog with an impressive look and confidant demeanor so people would "think" you have a good guard dog. You have since realized that YOU better be the guard dog because your Pit Bull is indeed more at risk of being stolen than your TV.
Don't be bummed. If ever you are the victim of an act of violence, a good Pit Bull will probably instinctively attempt to defend you because you are the food provider and he depends on you for his survival (and yes, he loves you too ;-) If you are not being aggressed though, a good Pit Bull will be friendly with anyone with no distinction in regard to age, sex, skin color, clothing, ect, because a good Pit Bull is a stable dog and you have socialized him well.Pit Bulls as Guard Dogs

No. The only "guard dog" qualities of a pit bull are its formidable appearance and its name. Other than that, they are not very good at this job. Pit bulls were not created to perform the task of protecting someone's home or property. In many cases pit bulls are just too friendly with people to be good at this. They may bark and "look" scary, but as soon as the intruder smiles at them, most pit bulls think they have made a new friend! In fact, pit bulls are very much at risk of being stolen. Due to their friendly and trusting nature, they are often led right out of their owners' yard, which is one reason they should never be left outdoors unattended.
Pit bulls should not show aggression towards humans and should never be encouraged to attack strangers under any cir stances. With their looks and unfair reputation alone, pit bulls will discourage most thieves from entering your property, provided they are not after the dog itself. Like any good dog, your pit bull should alert you if there is someone around your house, and it might naturally defend you if you are threatened. But do not count on your pit bull to guard your house or property while you are away. In fact, you may want to get a good alarm system to protect your pit bull.
Remember, you are the leader! Your dog counts on you to protect her, not the other way around.

Pitbulls do have extremely strong jaws tho, but the info about Pitbulls being friendly to anyone who smiles at them is right. When raised right Pits are extremely people friendly dogs.
