His victory over Ann Richards was not foretold in the polls, which had Richards up the whole way and up by like 13 points or something ridiculous like that, on election day. It was a stunning reversal.
dubya was always an A+ when it comes to delivering a speech, IMO. When people say Obama is a great speaker, dubya wasn't far behind, it he was behind at all. It's one of those key things any politician needs to have in order to make it to the top in these modern days. Not just the content, but also the delivery. Which is another reason why Palin is laughable.
(And yes, yes, I much rather have politicians that are honest and truthful in what they say, but unfortunately such kind does not exist. I'm just telling you what I see)
